Certain scout groups with tons of resources inspire those with few, and the results can range from disappointing to abandonment. I had a hell of a time getting cub scouts to do a skit, but it worked best when you had a separate place for a fire. Again, doesn’t excuse the guy that tried to hog it

2023-05-20 15:20:16 +0000 UTCJeez, sorry for the fire pit experience. If I had to guess: first off, it probably is scouts (multi-gender now). Second, the leaders are given all sorts of discovery-based lesson plans and they try to check them off during the trips. I imagine they were supposed to start a fire for credit, or make a dessert pie thingy in foil or something. Big groups have to be rotated through the different stations, hence the (weak) claim on the pit

2023-05-20 15:16:26 +0000 UTCI recommend the book The Power Worshippers. It’s a pretty interesting and thorough account of Christian Nationalism that I think accounts for some disparate elements that may be hard to understand otherwise.
