BONUS: Carl Beijer on Sean McElwee

I know this is not of interest to everybody, which is why I've made it a separate bonus episode you can skip. But if you are extremely online like many of us are, you may have seen the spate of articles about Sean McElwee, his departure from Data for Progress, and allegations about participating in illegal straw donor conspiracies. Carl Beijer is one of the great Sean chroniclers and so I've brought him on to fill in all the details.

I enjoyed this but unfortunately the sad-reality upshot is that the biggest frauds and scams are still the biggest successes in America. The French sayit best perhaps: "Plus c'est gros, plus ça passe" (It's worth noting that they're paraphrasing Joseph Goebbels' famous 'big lie' citation) Seen through that lense, this whole exchange carries all the gravitas of an old maid sewing circle…. Which is to say, how hard and how long can one pat themselves on the back about being honest and true when they have no power, no influence and lose every time?? McElwee's demise is a savoury bit of schadenfreud, but he is probably the lowest hanging fruit in terms of who we should be going after in this cuntry. But I guess we're relegated to taking our Ws wherever we can.

real McElwee heads will recall he went on Chris Hayes' podcast during his alleged socialist phase and advocated for giving dolphins the right to vote
