Sometimes it’s hard to tell what they actually think; an easy response to this would be something like “well they didn’t say they sympathized with anti vaxers, Liz said that it was wrong to mock their deaths and Matt made some bloodless observation about hypocrisy.” But it certainly does feel like there’s more sympathy with anti-vaxers there; for example, I also think it’s heinous that there’s a kind of person who refuses to get vaccinated for selfish reasons and that person is despicable, and I wish that was acknowledged while recognizing neither of the Bruenigs have any actual obligation to. Maybe what feels off is what they chose to spend their attention on. I really don’t know.

2021-09-30 23:52:40 +0000 UTCI’d imagine a fair chunk of the people who reacted badly to liz’s article wrongly made a link between “don’t mock the deaths of anti-vaxers” to “people who virulently refuse to get the vaccine because of some social war reason and die should be extended as much sympathy as anyone else.” Idk. The article convinced me it was wrong to mock the deaths of anti vaxers. I feel worse for the people who suffer because they can’t get it though, or suffer even though they’ve gotten it by dint of a lot of people not getting it
