Relationship Advice with The Bruenigs

Howdy folks!

In a couple of weeks, we (Matt and Liz, your hosts) will be enjoying our seventh wedding anniversary. Seven years, folks! You know what they say. I  guess

We're always thinking about the listeners around here, so we figured a good way to celebrate would be to answer your questions about love, sex, marriage, relationships, etc. So please do jump in with your burning questions!!

You might be thinking: But The Bruenigs, haven't you had a sort of unusual relationship trajectory? Isn't it the case, you wonder in your little wheedling poindexter voice, that your experiences are probably pretty remote from those of the average pod listener, not least because one of you is literally autistic?

The answer: That kind of thinking represents a lack of imagination. Sure, we have an unusual situation relative to our cohort, but we solve our problems just like everybody else: Reasoning from universal principles which are categorically applicable and treat all persons as ends as opposed to means. We deal in facts and logic around here, buddy, ok?

So go ahead, ask us anything. You can trust us. We're the experts.

Would you ever recommend a green card marriage?

Hey Matt and Liz, I’m a gay guy in my early 20s attending college in New York. I’m definitely not cut out for serial dating, and I think I met a guy my age who is looking for something long term, which is exciting! I know there’s different etiquette for different dating pools and subcultures, but I want to figure out how to find a good person to share my life with. Everybody around me thinks I’m naïve or strange for not wanting chronic flings, so it’s kind of disillusioning. What’s your advice for dating early on? Should I be concerned for desiring a long term relationship when I’m so young? God bless you both!
