New COVID Bill; Oren Cass Debate Recap; Substack Hate
Added 2021-03-12 20:19:08 +0000 UTCThe gang is back, talking about the new COVID bill, which as with most things has received a slightly confused reaction, a coach-style analysis of the Oren Cass debate, and then some discussion of the recent weird trend of saying substack, patreon, and all popular left content creators are secretly fascism.

I want to also say: people who cause harm in a manic state should of course apologize profusely. They should also try to rectify and make amends for what they have done. And after the fact, they are morally responsible for getting and rigorously maintaining — to the extent it is available to them — effective and protective mental health treatment. It sounds like Freddie has done all of this.

Like Freddie, I suffered a manic episode with psychotic features (six years ago). I was lucky enough that my family identified it before I did anything that hurt anyone or anything with serious personal or professional consequences. But having personally experienced that state, I feel strongly that people suffering from that acute condition are not morally responsible for their actions — at least not in the sense of deserving retribution. People who have not experienced a manic episode have no clue how it powerfully warps you into an entirely different person with virtually no connection to who you are in a healthy condition.
