Matt Tackles Questions About 8 Can't Wait, Police Unions, etc.

A solo episode treat in which Matt discusses the numbers behind the 8 Can't Wait agenda, Police Unions and the labor radicalism of police more generally, and then reflects on what we might learn from the incredible mobilization success of the George Floyd protests.

super late comment--unions seem at their base moral level designed to devolve power from capital to labour. If, as it seems in the case of the police unions, that they're actually serving to accumulate power for one group, doesn't that mean they're missing the moral point of unions?

All my best to Liz. We all love her and hope she gets back to full strength soon. Great stuff about the power to strike, slow down production, or threaten the state. You don't normally think about that power related to the police, or capital. I read a good quote from Eugene Debs recently where he said he didn't want workers to be all powerful, just equal in power to owners and management. Ideally, the state, capital and labor would all work together to their mutual benefit. Hasn't worked that way for decades.
