Hi Matt, I’m a pākeha New Zealander so my exposure to an knowledge of US racial economics is gonna be lacking. But I am wondering if reparations are ever discussed in terms other than economic benefits/payments to the descendants of enslaved peoples? E.G; there is the argument that the US was built on the backs of enslaved people - could reparations in part take the form of their descendants having a lower burden towards the national project than the general population in the future? That could start to square the circle if redistributionist policies, just for their own sake, were designed for the sake of historical justice to exempt certain gains. There is a debate here about the introduction of a capital gains tax as to whether this should be levied on indigenous peoples land, for example.
