No one could have cut to the heart of the anti-home care credit BSing better than Liz after minute 46. Masterful, Scooby Doo-level unmasking of those args as the same old Clinton-era neoliberal pussy-footing. Goons pressured women with welfare to take insecure jobs instead as business boomed. How empowering. By the time those jobs went bust, the goons had already pronounced welfare to be Reformed and lost interest. The imposition of capitalist values on feminism kills me. And of course no one hand-wringing about the home care credit even bothers mentioning fathers. This isn’t 1996. Women have more advanced degrees now. Men have more contract work now that might accommodate at-home parenting. We can’t talk about the whole picture? Some people seem to believe that women inherently earn less money. Really, they get seen as a “risk” if they don’t prioritize work over family. Businesses don’t like uncertainty. Women could earn more if businesses trusted child care would be covered at a societal level. I will always be grateful y’all turned me lefter.
