Brutal Leaders and the MAGA Kid
Added 2019-01-23 02:46:11 +0000 UTCMatt and Liz discuss a frequent and bizarre argument made on behalf of certain kinds of politicians who do bad things -- that they can't help it due to structural oppression that forces them to be brutal. Then they turn to the exhausting and stupid controversy of the moment: the MAGA Kid and the Native Elder.

Before the 2008 elections the irs issued some guidance that 501(c)(3) organizations had best not host a single political candidate, in order to avoid the prohibition on political campaigning. You can host an event with all the candidates, but if you just host one it might count as campaigning. In my experience, universities that are 501c3s will not allow student organizations to hold events with candidates during election season unless they are bipartisan. Someone probably raised this with the baffler.
