100% what I thought during the cake and guitar scene. That's not even special needs 5 year-old behavior, let alone fifteen. My headcanon is that this version of Ellie has a tinge of Down's, which makes her utter stupidity and impulsive behavior more tolerable.

Definitely the best episode of the season. Small correction: In the game you can indeed climb the dinosaur and jump into the water below.

i may consider unsubscribing just for colin's heinous slander of rc cola. rc is not a generic cola derivative. it stands shoulder to shoulder with the greats. coke. pepsi. dr. pepper. and rc cola. the mount rushmore of cola. all the others are trash derivatives of these 4 kings.

When you watch the little "making of" portion at the end of the episode, you see they did have the entire museum with the dinosaur fossils. That's where Neil told Perdo how much he loved seeing Joel come to life. So they had the money to not only build those props, but to edit that scene out.

Couple of small nitpicks would be I found some of the dialogue in the scene with Joel, Ellie & Kat to be a little cringe. Not overly so, but a little "modern day". Also, Ellie still comes across a little more immature in this episode than I'd like. Eating the cake with her hands, seems maybe a little old at 15 to be doing that to me. Also, revealing Joel's lies to Gail, because she's pissed at Joel, not really the adult way to handle it. I mean, it made a good scene with the "you swore" and she is still only 19, but it is kind of a bratty teenage move.

This episode was great, easily the best of the season. It confirmed my read during the first episode that Joel and Ellie hadn't had the confrontation over the lie yet. I feel like the way the game handles it is a little more tragic, having the confrontation 2 years in the past then having the porch scene be the first time they have a real conversation since is pretty sad. The show's take is really good too, though. Bella Ramsey's performance as Ellie was also really good in this episode. Just as Micah said, this was an episode that played into her strengths. Exposing Joel's lies to Gail and the porch scene were really good. It's the angry, determined, fierce Ellie we're not getting, but that wasn't in this episode. Pedro Pascal as Joel, also great, really good job on the porch.
