While Destin appeared on Fireside Chats (RIP in Peace) way back in 2017, this is his first time on +, and I invited him at a seminal time in his life. Having opted to leave IGN at the end of last year after a long and vaunted career, our paths are actually quite similar, yet separated by about a decade. How's Destin finding his post-mainstream media life? What's content creation been like out on his own? And what does he think the future holds for both him and our industry? Plus: We talk about games, too. Indeed, most of our chat is all about PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and their respective paths forward in the short, mid, and long-term. How do we gauge the respective journeys these brands find themselves on? How will they interact with each other -- if at all -- moving forward? And perhaps most importantly, why does it feel like console gaming itself has a finite amount of time affixed to it? Are we on a road toward antiquity?

He's always like "that Uncharted game that's coming" and then whoever he's talking to looks confused and he's just like "yeah, you know the Uncharted game they revealed in 2020 with a 2 second clip in a highlight reel promotion for the console. You can't tell me that's not an Uncharted game!" Not an exact quote but that's the jist of what he always says. And after 4 plus years of not hearing anything about this game, it's getting annoying.

2025-03-05 12:36:06 +0000 UTCWhat’s the point of asking Destin to game out the idea of the next Xbox allowing Steam on the system, if Colin’s going to immediately say ‘it makes no sense and here’s why’ right after asking? Seems more like Colin is trying to steer Destin towards his line of thinking, instead of actually trying to see of there are alternate ideas of how Steam on Xbox could work. Why not ask the question and wait for the guest’s response, instead of trying to color their response to match your opinion. Good to see Destin on the show, and can’t wait to see Colin on Save State.

I understand it's just a general catch-up, letting people know Destin is full time and getting broad sentiment on a variety of topics, but there was a feeling of not knowing what to talk about. I was also somewhat shocked to hear he doesn't have much of a content plan and is figuring things out as he goes. In 2015 that makes more sense, but now? You've had a lot of time to study what others are doing and figure out your focus before leaving the job. I think his patreon is middling and he seems a bit stressed it didn't pop off as much as he perhaps hoped. Hopefully I'm wrong about that, he does seem nice.

I think obviously Greg's behahvior wasn't for me, and isn't how I would handle things or what I expect out of a friend, but in business shit gets complicated, Colin's always been pretty good faith about the whole thing from what I've observed and has offered to bury the hatchet on a number of occasions. Greg gave him some shout outs more recently on the air. More broadly I think I remember Colin acknowledging that his exit absolutely created financial stress on the company. I don't know about you, but I think it's possible there may come a time when Greg contacts Colin and buries that hatchet, and I think I'd watch the hell out of a stand alone episode, I'm probably not alone.

If my best friend for years just did a 180 on me for no real reason I would never want to talk to them again. I would feel so betrayed. The stories Colin tells about how shitty those guys were to him before he left is disgusting. Colin is the definition of the best revenge is living well. Kinda Funny is a shell of its former self. Greg is a corporate shill, he's anyone's dog for a bone. Keep that garbage away from Last Stand.

This is what stands out so much for me with LSM, apart from the hosts and regulars which I all love (watching them all). The value is insanely high and I never felt bad about letting go of my 5 bucks. Same with the add based model for Netflix, insane value.

No one has sown more disingenuous standpoints , bad faith arguments and just straight up misinformation in the early 2020s than this dude. He's so dead set certain that the 2 second clip of a female archeologist is an Uncharted game. He often speaks about it as if it's fact. I don't think this game exists. Who's making it? Why have we not seen anything about it? I just wish he would stop talking about it like it's a straight up fact.
