Think Gene might be overstating how bad Mortal Kombat 1 is doing. Ed Boon tweeted just a few weeks ago that MK1 was in the top 15 most played games on PS5 for all of December, the only fighting game on the Circana list aside from Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. Floyd was introduced into the game as a secret fight in a recent update and really invigorated the fanbase, while the guest characters such as Conan and Ghost Face have been well recieved. The FGC has a huge hater boner for Mortal Kombat and always has so it can be hard to tell what the mood is but the dire state of Mortal Kombat 1 is greatly exaggerated. A lot of people seem to regurgitate their fighting game takes from Maximilian Dood these days, especially the people that don't play fighting games.
