Defining Duke, Episode 214 | The TRUTH On Avowed Is HERE... (We Interviewed The Director)

Everything from framerate and role-playing mechanics to the future of the Pillars franchise is covered in our deep dive with the game's director. Also, we get a bit into what's behind the secret sauce that allows a team like Obsidian to release so many games in a short period of time while the rest of the industry toils away on one-and-done projects. That's not the only news to come out of Obsidian as the lead writer of Fallout's most loved entry in New Vegas just returned to the studio. John Gonzalez is known for not only his work on the Horizon series, but also his iconic characters created such as Mr. House, the Strip families, Caesar, and so on. Could Obsidian be cooking on Fallout? Well, not according to John, but we theorize nonetheless. Naturally, we get into the plethora of PS5 ports announced this week in Forza Horizon 5 as well as the Age Of Empires series plus plenty more in a girthy week of Defining Duke!

2025-02-10 09:25:35 +0000 UTCGentlemen, I’m reporting a technical issue with the show over the past couple of months. I think Cog must have gotten a new mic or changed his setup somehow? Whenever he starts spitting his bars, his voice gets really low, almost like a whisper. Up until recently that was never an issue but for weeks now I’ve noticed that I legitimately can’t hear anything he’s saying when he does that, like I don’t think the mic is even picking him up. For example when he starts talking about Destiny on this episode, I could barely hear half of what he was saying. I’m not sure if the mic is too far away from his mouth or what. Cog, I love hearing what you have to say, but I can’t! Anyways, keep up the good work Dukes, listening to you guys is one of the highlights of my week every week!

Also sad spoiled 2nd map in the conversation I wanted that elden ring moment of finding an entire new section of game I didn't know exist

I didn't pull the trigger on PC version because I wanted DualSense Trigger support. Hopefully Motorsport will challenge Gran Turismo in the future on PlayStation.

Halo and Gears gonna have me spending money on all platforms. 😅 EA is looking like Ubisoft lately. They’re lucky they have the sports titles. And my man Fares of course. I’d guess content and services only grew 2% because people subbed, played, then canceled all within the quarter. So 2% may just represent a slight uptick in retention. And because people got to play those for basically free, game sales were down even with two AAA launches. Worst of both worlds. I wonder if the dude responsible for refunding gamepass cancellations got laid off.
