That game is utter trash and a waste of anyone's time. His praise is insane, and not in touch with reality. Baffling and questionable judgement, and ignorant to the final fantasy series, yet here he is - wasting my time with this podcast. No one steps in or corrects him, and Gene even agrees with him at times. This show is getting worse and more worthless. If I hear this Embers idiot on here again I'm cancelling my membership.

2025-01-29 16:18:09 +0000 UTCIt doesn’t get better and it’s a drag until you get to Gran Pulse anyway. Do yourself a favour and just play XIII-2 if you haven’t, it fixes essentially everything is a stellar game overall. I despised XIII and it took me years to even try the sequel, it’s so damn good.

Good thing though is If you liked XIII that much, wait till you get to XIII-2 which fixes every issue from the original and is just a vastly superior game in every facet. XIII-2 is a legitimately great game. It’s sad that XIII had such a knee jerk reaction to people as it caused them to dismiss the immensely better sequels. I really hope they release the Nova Crystallis trilogy as a remaster sooner rather than later.

2025-01-28 22:06:14 +0000 UTClol surprisingly Gene, no it wasn’t me at MAGFEST. 12 years ago when I was graduating from college, I learned there was a Kmart on Guam. I thought about it recently and it’s literally the last surviving one there now. I’m thinking maybe a Last Stand Pilgrimage? In response to Ember - my sort it out isn’t coming from a petty place. Games take this long to come out, and this specific game was delayed for a year essentially, and there are still bugs to this small degree still being shown on an official stream? We pay 70 dollars for games and they are being released halfway finished most of the time. With the recent discussion of should you pay 100 dollars for games, I think it shouldn’t even be a discussion until we see games getting released in an actually finished and acceptable state. In regards to Mercante - it was a very one sided defense of her. She has clearly went after people and said terrible things about gamers and the gaming community. She isn’t this little perfect flower that is just being dogpiled. Definitely agree on the sound mixing - before I play any game now I go in and turn down the music volume a few notches and turn up voice volume if it isn’t all the way up.

I think there was a misunderstanding that I found the story poor or confusing because of the terminology- that’s incorrect. I don’t understand that criticism, the fal’cie, l’cie, etc. is all very easy to understand. What is confusing is the storytelling decisions. The repetitive flashbacks to the festival. The melodrama to me is really uninteresting compared to other entries; the comparisons to 7R or XVI make me realize just how poor this game is by contrast. We’re all “on the run” is the justification for the hallways, but I couldn’t be asked to actually care about the characters. I don’t care about Snow, or Hope or Vanille. They’re mostly dull tropes. And why are we split up for most of the game?! It’s also a precursor to the Dragon Age Veilguard writing criticisms. How many times unless I’m mistaken do they repeat dialogue? A l’cie has to fulfill their Purpose or the they become… Also I stand by my statement that the voice acting, while not across the board of course, has some dire casting choices. If you listen with headphones the sound design is bad too. It sounds like they did VO in a bathroom stall 😆 Lastly on the wait til it gets good for the combat remark. I checked my achievements and I was on chapter 8/13. Damn man. It wasn’t even giving me tutorials anymore… it just wasn’t fun to me. And the kiosks…man Sorry for the longer response just wanted to clarify my seething fury for XIII lol
