I want my throat coated so bad to see how it feels, but fortunately I haven’t gotten sick.

2025-01-29 16:36:47 +0000 UTCThroat Coat Bros, GamePass pick of the week has to be Eternal Strands. Take a little Shadow of the Colossis, with Kingdoms of Amalur, with a physics based sandbox and you get this awesome hidden gem. At only 20 hours, this is a fun, quick romp, not to be missed. Have a, "My wife took my advice, when she had a sore throat, and let me coat that throat, and we've never been happier", kind of day.

2025-01-29 15:28:27 +0000 UTCHey Dukes, I wanted to give props to Matty for beating the drum on Far Harbor. I finally decided to give it a go based on Matty’s recommendation. It was a great addition to the adventure. The story does put you into some serious moral quandaries and some of the side quests are really cool as well. So thanks for the recommendation. Now off to infinite wealth. Have a I can’t believe I get to solve a robot murder mystery kind of day!

2025-01-29 14:44:47 +0000 UTCGreetings Dukes. In the last week, PlayStation has cancelled multiple poorly thought out projects and axed one of their Co-ceos. If this was Xbox the dream would be dead and the media would be swarming to the corpse like flies. I'm not here to ask about the hypocrisy though. What I'm here to ask about is does this leave an opening for Xbox to swoop in and retake the market, or are they already too far down the third party path?

2025-01-29 14:22:44 +0000 UTCGreetings Dukes, I know I am a little late to the party but I just finished Metaphor this week, I loved it but thought it had some serious issues that held it back from being a GOTY. I was wondering if you guys would share your thoughts on the game now that you both have finished it. Have a, don't worry, we have no exclusive games, we have capabilities, kinda day...

2025-01-29 11:19:03 +0000 UTCI want to thank Matty for his recommendation of Harold Halibut. That was one of my most surprising experiences in gaming. The setting, characters, writing and unique story was amazing. I really appreciate the light hearted sense of humor, also. The game doesnt have combat or any real bad guys or villians and I still feel like it plays well as a video game. It really opened up my eyes to what a game can be. It's the perfect medium for what they created. I've been thinking about it every day since playing it.

2025-01-29 07:51:55 +0000 UTCHowdy Dukeners, Something on topic today, what are your thoughts on Herman being put in a different position at Sony? The conversation on Constellation was intriguing and a good listen. I began to wonder how involved Jim Ryan was in the live service extravaganza as Herman Hulst from my gut feeling seems like the one who may have had more hands in these projects coming to light. It is also interesting given all these cancellations and Sony wanting to build up new IP while also shoveling out tons of Horizon projects that I don't see as much potential for as say something new. How many Horizon games are in the works now or how many were there? 5 or maybe closer to 8? I don't know, I don't hate Horizon but it seems like a misjudgment to go balls deep on the IP so consistently when I'm sure the creatives in their studios likely have some amazing ideas to build new worlds and give the PlayStation audience a deserved shock of excitement from some shiny new possible franchise. On a random side note I really would like to see one of Sony's first-party studios try their hand at an RPG akin to Dragons Dogma just to see what they can do with the mechanics like climbing monsters or maybe something closer to a genuine mix of Monster Hunter and Dragons Dogma in an open world with a familiar but unique setting. Anyway, I'm a huge lore guy so that kind of world always gets me going. Also really enjoyed your recent content, Matty, I could listen to a deep dive from you on some games if that ever tickles your fancy thank you, and love ya Cog always be you, brother.

2025-01-29 00:58:06 +0000 UTCI have done my best to remain console agnostic as I have owned all relevant consoles since the Atari 2600. That said, with the recent interviews Spencer gave, I am finding it harder to find a reason to buy the next generation console/handheld Xbox will offer. If I want a great handheld or console, I would purchase the next Switch or PS6 as I would get all of their first party exclusives as well as all Microsoft games coming over. And no console can measure up with a solid gaming PC. Also for PC, the Xbox handheld cannot compete with the newer Steam Deck or any of the other dozen competitors that will exist. Why? Getting PC game pass for PC (which should work on the steam deck) would be 12.00 a month currently with day 1 releases, where Xbox game pass ultimate is 20.00 (96.00 more a year). Sure, you’d lose the EA games, but since you do not get EA games day 1 anyways, it is no loss. Cloud streaming is also not a major loss. Finally, if the new xbox offering offers things like the steam and epic launchers, how does microsoft benefit from this. I cannot see steam giving any cut to Microsoft for being there. Xbox needs steam, not the other way around. As I feel a third of the Xbox user base is also multi console/pc owners, can either of you think of a way this new hardware could appeal to more than the 20 million hardcore Xbox fans? Rich

2025-01-29 00:54:05 +0000 UTCHi Dukes! The Developer Direct was insane for 2 reasons: Ninja Gaiden 4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. I am a huge fan of this franchise and when I saw they were both gonna be on Gamepass, I finally felt tempted to purchase a Series S. As a father of a 2 year old I'm looking to save money as much as I can and haven't gamed much in a while. Is it worth it to get a Series S this late in the game? Looking forward to your opinions. Keep up the great work!

2025-01-28 23:24:14 +0000 UTCHello 10 degree weather Dukes, This question is mostly for Lightly clothed Beefy Cognito, but throat goat Matty feel free to answer as well. I don't think we've heard your thoughts so far on The Fantastic Four: First Steps movie coming out this July. With them being the first wave of Rivals characters coming out, and a possible *fingers crossed* first trailer appearing at the Super Bowl, the family is getting a more prominent showing in mainstream, even more than the fox movies. What are your hopes and expectations for the film? Will you be seeing it day one? How do you feel about them going with the Shalla-Bal version of the Silver Surfer, played by Julia Garner? (Ruth from "Ozark") Keep up the great conversations, and have a "Jeff the Land Shark is one of Satan's greatest soldiers" kind of day.

2025-01-28 20:30:29 +0000 UTCG’day Dukes, Is it just me or is Xbox starting to catch on how powerful nostalgia can be? In the next 2 years we’ll be enjoying new games from franchises that once thrived in Xbox’s golden era. Fable, Ninja Gaiden, Gears of War and Perfect Dark are all on the way with rumors of remakes for Halo CE and Oblivion in the not too distant future as well. I for one am stoked that Xbox is finally leaning into its heritage in meaningful ways. How else would you like to see Xbox rekindle the excitement of its best years? Perhaps a follow up to ODST or the long-awaited Banjo-Kazooie threequel? What about Geometry Wars 4 as a launch game for the next console? Hell, I’d even love to see Gears open the next conference like the OG did back at E3 2006. I reckon that would have us all feeling a certain kinda way. Much love from down under and shoutout to everyone on their own #HealthIsWealth journeys; you got this! Shane

2025-01-28 19:27:17 +0000 UTCPs6 is looking like the last one for Sony before following Xbox with their own app. Unless they make the new ps6 like a pc where you can change the internals, this is the way to go. Xbox like always too early with the tech.

2025-01-28 19:13:43 +0000 UTCGreeting Dukes, For the first time in quite some time I felt relieved after hearing Phil Spencer talk about the future of Xbox. In his most recent interview, he explained that their priority isn't about the console brand, Xbox but about the games Xbox creates. He mentioned that they of course will continue making consoles and that they hope consumers choose their console and instead of focusing on exclusives to sell units, they're hoping their console sells itself. Having the highest level of technology on the market. How do you guys feel about this angle? To me this sounds exactly like what Cog was wanting. Continue to put all of their games on all platforms to be as profitable as possible but also have their boutique console for the hardcore Xbox fans. Have a "my boss said he had a sore throat and I told him to get some of that throat coat and everyone in the meeting looked at me like I just made a inappropriate joke in a formal meeting" kind of day.

2025-01-28 18:55:15 +0000 UTCHey Dukes, What is the most you would be willing to pay for Gamepass Ultimate a month? With all these heavy hitters coming out in 2025 I can see another increase in the future.

2025-01-28 18:41:20 +0000 UTCGreetings Dukes, With Phil Spencer doubling down again on the Series S requirements for games not going away, how do you think this will impact the future development of more ambitious titles from Xbox's first-party studios, especially as we get deeper into the console generation? I can't help but think this could hinder some studios from reaching their full potential. Best, Sean M.

2025-01-28 17:09:17 +0000 UTCThat’s a good shout actually. I was wondering that myself. My guess is Nintendo will keep doing their own unique thing, which kind of makes them bomb proof in the long run. Sony…not sure.

2025-01-28 15:55:55 +0000 UTCHey y’all hope both of you gentlemen are doing well. If they ever make a documentary on the decline of Xbox, do y’all think we’ll ever get more insight on why the decision was made to focus on TV at reveal of the Xbox One in 2013? Looking back now it was obviously a mistake but I do remember around early 2012 up until the reveal most of my friends, who all played on Xbox 360, weren’t really playing games anymore. My friends list was full of “watching Netflix” statuses. Do y’all think at that point the data for most of the player base mirrored that which ultimately led to Xbox’s decision to lean into that? Take care gentlemen!

2025-01-28 15:36:10 +0000 UTCGood morning creamy style Matty and oven-baked Cog - a penny for your thoughts on something. On the last DD, Matty mentioned that KCD2 had an artificially long intro sequence, knowing that the sequel would be popular and thinking from a “business-first” point of view. Can the same be said about 2016’s RDR2 and its massive prologue and extended tutorial as well? I'm playing RDR2 for the first time right now and the comparison immediately came to mind after its 5-6 hour introduction period. If so, can it be inferred that Rockstar was using this “business first” way of thinking almost a decade ago, and now we are seeing it more clearly? Moreover, can we expect the same thing for more single-player games, including GTA6 this year? Thanks and have a “press the second to top right side button to turn that stupid advertisement off while I'm filling up with gas” kind of day.

2025-01-28 13:32:51 +0000 UTCHi Dukes. First time poster on your channel. I own a Series S as well as PS5 and switch. I always felt the combination of the series S together with game pass has made for a compelling one. Given that the Series S is pretty cheap, and is clearly Xbox’s better selling console compared to the X, why hasn’t it been marketed heavily as such? The lack of TV adverting and just advertising in general (here in the UK at least) has always baffled me. Surely it should have been a no brainer to push the Series S as a game pass machine as hard as possible? I even bought myself an elite controller to go with it, which is still my favourite controller to this day. Great show and hope all is well with you guys.

2025-01-28 10:57:31 +0000 UTCHello Dukes, On Summon Sign, Cog mentioned that he's planning a trip to Japan. When will you be going, and what places are you going to visit? My brother and I are also planning a trip to Japan this April for 3 weeks and will be visiting 10 different cities there (Tokyo, Kanazawa, Osaka, etc.) Matty, have you ever been outside of the country before or considering a trip in the near future? Thank you the podcast. It was great seeing you two at the San Diego show.

2025-01-28 02:45:42 +0000 UTCGreetings! If Xbox is to make a portable console (as they most assuredly are doing), would you want the form factor to be similar to the PlayStation Portal--like an Xbox controller split in half with a nice screen in between, or more like a Switch, where the controls are different from an existing controller? Keep powering your dreams!

2025-01-28 01:03:03 +0000 UTCWhat's up Dukes! The Ninja Gaiden 4 announcement has gotten me dreaming of the myriad of japanese games Xbox game studios can publish. Do you see this trend continuing or is this just a one time thing? Is there any franchise in particular that you could see Xbox publishing? I could see Xbox publishing a new mainline Phantasy Star game for Sega, but I'm trying not to dream too much. Thanks for all you guys do!

What are your thoughts? Thanks for all the great content.

2025-01-28 00:03:49 +0000 UTCGood day dukes, With KCD2 looking to have a massive launch, it seems like the general public has an endless appetite for more hardcore RPG experiences. BG3, Stalker 2, Dragons Dogma 2,were all huge successes as well. My question is do you think Bethesda should take note of this market trend and add elements to Elder Scrolls 6 a more hardcore experience? Maybe focusing more on the RPG part of the action rpg (more actual choice and consequence) with more punishing gameplay and combat, survival mechanics that aren’t some afterthought or an optional addition.Just feel like this could be a way for Bethesda to gain some of the favor back with the fans and would maybe help their work stack up against the competition. Thanks and have a great week!

2025-01-27 23:47:48 +0000 UTCDuke Boys, After listening to the Phil Spencer interview tour, I heard a confident Phil. When asked (by Dustin Legarie) if he was worried about shipping Xbox games to more platforms and basically creating a proposition where the consumer would have no reason to buy an Xbox. Phil responded they've seen that this strategy makes Xbox stronger. Period. When asked about discontinuing the Series S, Phil was confident and pushed back on the narrative it's too weak. Basically pointing to handhelds the Series S is close with and games that run well on it. Again, sort of implying it's a developer issue. When asked about why people would buy their hardware, he stated it would be through innovation and services like Play Anywhere. Bottom line, my read was he was confident and almost subtlety aggressive at some of the insinuations. I'd love to hear the Duke's takes and if they feel a little better about Xbox's future. Have a I googled throat coat at work and now HR wants to talk to me kind of day

2025-01-27 22:30:52 +0000 UTCHey guys, I have a genuine question about the narrative around Xbox consoles dying. Our most recent number of gamepass subs was 34 million, and it can be assumed that that probably translates somewhere between 200 to 300 million dollars a month. Would Xbox really want to kill its consoles if a good portion of that money is coming from them? Sony’s Spider-Man 2 sold 11 million copies, and even if they were all sold at full price after the development cost and licensing they likely only made close to 200 million in profit. Xbox is likely making that every month off of gamepass subs and a good portion of those are from people subbed on Xbox. Thanks!

2025-01-27 21:46:30 +0000 UTCHey Dukes - hope you're both doing very very well this dark January (for us Brits anyway) I wanted to ask specifically Matty: you've mentioned in the past that you don't like the PC Game Pass app on Windows and I'm curious as to why? I've been using it and while I'm not a diehard PC player, I've been very much enjoying the ease of downloading games and seeing if they'll "run well on my PC" as the app tells me. Not encouraging a pile-on here, but would be curious to hear what you (and Cog ofc) think of the app and where it could improve in your eyes. Have a "Marty Stratton looks like a wish.com version of Phil Spencer" kind of day 😅

2025-01-27 21:45:26 +0000 UTCBlessed Day Dukes, For the Game Pass pick of the week, I humbly suggest two games that I was given the opportunity to cover for LogNet. Eternal Strands and Sniper Elite: Resistance are day-one releases this week and playing through a fair amount of each game, was greatly impressed with them both. With the former having very original mechanics with wide locations to explore while the later offers a super fun co-op experience, Game Pass owners are eating good in January between these releases and the fantastic shadow drop of Ninja Gaiden Black 2.

2025-01-27 21:43:24 +0000 UTCBlessed Day Throat Goats, As someone who got very emotional over the ending of Ori 2 when finishing it on my Switch a few years ago, the announcement that Microsoft approaching Moon Studios for a Ori 3 has me over the moon. 2025-01-27 21:41:32 +0000 UTCHey Dukes, With the NG2 Black shadowdrop, i once again had to listen to a tired argument. Can you guys please stop blaming the Hi-Fi Rush shadowdrop for the closure/sale of Tango? Nobody bought Evil Within 2 or Ghostwire Tokyo either, and those were obviously AAA games with a much higher budgets and traditional marketing cycles. The only mistake Xbox made with Hi-FI was charging $30 for it. They easily could have gotten away with $50. I’ll give Cog a pass, but it’s frustrating to hear this logic from Matty as he has routinely acknowledged that Bethesda’s non-BGS single-player games weren’t selling, which led to their live-service push. In October 2017, Wolfenstein 2 and the Evil Within 2 both released, and neither game was in the top 10 of NPD, and the Steam numbers for Evil Within 2 were not great either.

2025-01-27 21:36:56 +0000 UTCHey Dukes... This is a question for Matty. What's with the ellipsis (...) at the end of a lot of your MrMattyPlays video titles? I saw it on last weeks DD video title too and I'm generally curious. Does it get more people to click on a video if it has ... at the end of the title? If it does, maybe game titles should have more ellipsis in them. Starfield..., Indiana Jones and the Great Circle... Do you know of any game that has and ellipsis in its title? Is this a possible cheat code the AAA devs need to increase sales? I feeling like having them draws me in. What say you MrEllipsis?

2025-01-27 20:34:16 +0000 UTCHey Dukes, Not exactly Xbox news but what do you think of Sony further scaling back its physical media operation? I think the question we all want to know is, will you let us at least buy an optional drive with PS6? While I’m open minded about digital games, there are some I want to own physically. I also don’t want my only physical media choice to be Switch 2, as it will offer relatively limited graphical performance. Of course Xbox is, to me, a digital only platform moving forward; but I’m letting the hope flame flicker a bit for Sony. Thanks

2025-01-27 20:34:10 +0000 UTCHey Dukes, Cog your constant praise of the rog ally pushed me to make the purchase. I got an open box deal for $400 and after optimizing through the many settings and screens I got to say I'm really impressed! This thing is pretty powerful with what it can do once you optimize it. Where you as surprised as I was with the out-of-box experience? What do you think can be done in the future with these handhelds to make them more user friendly from the get-go and you have any tips to improve performance? Anyways love the show and what you guys do keep up the awesome work.

2025-01-27 20:15:34 +0000 UTCGreetings Throat coat viper and Beefy Viper, Is it wrong of me to want AC Shadows to fail? Hear me out. I am currently playing through the Ezio Collection and going for the platinum. It is outdated in its combat and stupid feather collecting, where I am missing one feather right now for the platinum. However when you do pull off an assassination it feels rewarding. It doesn’t matter if they have little to heavy armor. You Assassinate them all equally. Compared to assassinations in Shadows, if you try to assassinate an elite guard, they don’t die. How? HOW? Also the samurai gameplay with Yasuke was clearly added on later. They saw how Tsushima was well regarded and said we have to do that too. How can my man bulldoze through buildings but can’t kill a soldier when he stabs them through the throat? What kind of throat coat tea were they drinking back then? There are many games today that have better sword play that feels impactful when you play. Sorry for the long rant but as a fan of Assassins Creed, I feel like they have lost the plot on what being an assassin is. The fact that the Guillemont family wants to retain power even when all this has been their doing, is laughable. Take care and love all that you do. Even if you do love Sonic. Throat coat army assemble!!

2025-01-27 20:00:53 +0000 UTCOver the weekend its all but said Microsoft Gaming is now a third party publisher, electing to publish future games, and back catalog where financially viable to Playstation and Nintendo platform. In this new era for Xbox, does it not make more sense than ever to buy up as many publishers and studios as possible? The FTC will have less to worry about, as competition is not stifled. Does a Square, WB, Take2, etc acquisition seem more likely, now that the future plans of Xbox are more clear?

2025-01-27 19:00:47 +0000 UTCI just have to comment and say ever since I purchased the Rog Ally (thanks Cog), Gamepass and play anywhere has been huge for me. I played games on my flights to and from Japan with no issue. I've been playing games I don't need an OLED TV or Surround sound for while on my couch. For someone like me, who is a big Playstation guy, I'll keep Gamepass as long as I can use play anywhere. It has been a huge positive. Quick tip. Sign up for Gamepass through Verizon if you have their cell service. It saves you five bucks a month. It's looking more likely that I will see you in Japan and at TGS, Cog. I got approval from the boss (my wife). I love the show. Keep up the awesome work.
