Defining Duke, Episode 211 | The Xbox Rumors Are Swirling - Big Reveals SOON?

As expected, the Xbox Developer_Direct is set to arrive soon and it will boast four games. Those titles are South Of Midnight, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and a mysterious fourth game that's rumored to be from a "legendary Japanese IP." Naturally, the Dukes have many guesses about that, but also if there will the be usual fifth game that shows up like it has since Developer Direct became a thing. We won't have to wait long to find out. What we'll need to wait a while for is if Xbox will survive beyond 2030. No, that's not hyperbole. Outlet The Information reports that the Xbox business was set to shutdown in 2021 unless Game Pass subscriptions went up. What the rest of the write-up depicts are spooky times for the Green Team as it seems more and more like these moves by Xbox are more for survivability. Oblivion Remake continues to be a horribly kept secret, so we get into some new gameplay details on that, and also into what's going on with Ubisoft as Assassin's Creed Shadows sees another delay. You can get all of that, plus your weekly throat coat, all here on Defining Duke!

I’m very late on the reply, but thanks for those tips! I’ll look into a spin lock set. And logging workouts will definitely help, I’ll work those into my routine. Preciate it!!

Andrew

I second this. Logging my workouts was a GAME CHANGER

Bleeflooflah

Where can I find Jez's response? Maybe I didn't look well enough but I sifted through Twitter and windows central and found nothing

David P

I was a little Johnny playing oblivion at some point and I became insanely addicted and it shaped my gaming taste. Respect these kids intelligence Edit: Matty - you think the leveling system is well done and *EASY* to break in a way that makes the game easier for the player? LMFAOOO

Bartevious

Only thing that needs to be worked on is some of the voice acting variety, procedural generation, bugs, and leveling system imo. The bones of the game still hold up really well I’d say. Combat is more functional than Skyrim to me too but that could be a hot take

Bartevious

As someone who loves Oblivion: I feel a “remake” is a huge mistake. First of all, the game in its current state is perfectly playable to anyone who would seek it out. Which brings me to my next point. A “remake” will draw the attention of a much wider audience. An audience that will have unreasonably high expectations for what is a janky 2006 game at its core. Unless it turns out to be rebuilt from the ground up, more along the lines of a reimagining than a recreation, it will be seen as an enormous disappointment and draw nothing but the same viral hate that Starfield received. Since I highly doubt a reimagining a la FF7 will happen, I sincerely hope that for Bethesda and Xbox’s sake, we just get an uprezz’d remaster with some QOL.

Okay, I guess everyone thinks it's a big deal lol! Great pod, Gents! #DDMeltdown

Mr. Scott If You're Nasty

Ninja Gaiden or a numbered entry in Shinobi are my two guesses for the surprise Japanese game.

Davario

Kvatch in Unreal 5 is gonna be something let me tell ya

Daddy T

Oblivion is my first and favorite Bethesda game. I absolutely love it with all my heart, and even I think Matty is way over the top ridiculous with how protective he is over it.

Zac

Two little pieces that I think will help you. 1. Absolutely plan and log your workouts. 2. Even just a pair of standard spin lock dumbbell handles and various weight plates is enough to hit most body parts. It’s worth the relatively cheap investment. Best of luck!

Hard R. Kelly - I don’t see nothin’ wrong with a little shuck n’ jive

I agree, an Xbox/PC gaming show would be way better than losing the Dukes.

Mr. Scott If You're Nasty

I stand with Mattys passion for the oblivion ui. I had a hard time reading it myself but goddamn was it unique.

PC is the obvious pivot and a glaring gap in Last Stands Media video game coverage overall . The synergy with X box & pc is clear but coupled with PlayStation titles starting to release on PC it just makes so much sense I’d love for you guys to take the mantle and to really shine a light on more indie focused titles. Especially with you and Colin both being indie developers Mattie you have personally turned me on to a number of indie titles I would have otherwise overlooked . Unsighted is a fantastic example of this .

“Bro. I got you on that throat coat.” “No. No you don’t.” 😂🤣 #MeltdownDD

NeO JD

Throat is feeling a little itchy …I know what I need

Henry Velasco

You guys should just switch the show to be PC focused! Xbox is on PC so just talk about Xbox and gamepass in that manor

Brian Comstock

Whether you guys are taking throat coat, Mac and cheese, fork vs spoon, or Xbox and other games, it doesn’t matter. I can’t get enough of your shows - always hilarious and informative about games in general and the chemistry is 🔥. Hope you guys always continue to be together on last stand no matter what the show might become. Just because Microsoft is failing with the Xbox brand doesn’t mean that you two are at all!

Great episode guys

ThroatCoatGoat

Hey guys, preciate y’all for the advice/taking my write-in! I guess in response, my immediate goal isn’t necessarily to bulk as much as it is to just build more baseline strength… although, bulking is definitely something I’m open to in the future! (Wouldn’t be bad to build more baseline strength so that it’s easier to get into bulking anyhow) For tris, I’ve actually got a push-up board that targets specific muscle groups based on where you place its handles (Tris, Pectoral, Lattisimus, and Shoulder), but I’ll also look into more tricep-focused routines to do with the medicine ball, kettlebell, and other equipment I may pick up. To be honest, I really need to create a specific workout routine for myself because I often just go with what I’m feeling like on that particular day. Typically, I shoot for lots of “minimums”, ( ex: at least 150 sit-ups while holding the medicine ball in place, 70 pushups of various types (diamond, standard, on fists, etc), and a grab bag of other sets), but there’s not much strategy for the “why” for each… I guess I just do it out of habit and routine. (Also coincides with how much time I have to get the workout in) - on one hand, it’s been beneficial since I’m doing it every day to some capacity - but it’s definitely not ideal for sustainable, visually tangible growth past my current point. It’s been two and a half years of consistent workouts, so I’m definitely more defined/trim than when I started, but it’s definitely time to refine the system and get more intensive with it. I hadn’t even thought of hemp seeds or pesto, Matty - I’ll give those a spin for sure! In general, I’m not a super heavy eater just because I’ve had some issues with body image in the past/I don’t have a huge appetite/etc., so those “invisible proteins” you mentioned are things I’ll figure out how to work into my diet. But in general, another slight goal of mine for this year is to improve my eating habits: though I typically stay away from a ton of sugars/ultra-processed foods and try leaning into cleaner stuff, I definitely feel I need to eat *more* cleaner food in general (and make a few other tweaks) and those invisible proteins will be a nice ancillary piece for that. Preciate that! And Cog, your advice on casein protein is much appreciated, I’ll take that into account if I start focusing on bulking for sure. And though I don’t go to a gym (work out from home), those Skullcrushers, declines, and other routines you mentioned are always welcome advice/things to note for future reference. Maybe I’ll try figuring out if I can do a gimped mock-up of those at home with my current routine. Thanks for your feedback for sure!! 🤘

Andrew

What do you mean IF? Lol

Scott

thank you matty , all love just wanted to clarify.

Production cycle got us (again) this week. Very bummed because it absolutely changes some dynamics of the conversation. We'll talk about the response from Xbox next week. - Matty

CUMSoftware

If Xbox does become a publisher, you guys are in the right position to keep the shoe going but about pc gaming instead, lots to talk about there and you both also use handhelds
