Could someone (please) send Chris a link to Matty´s review of DA: the Vailguard? Just so he can finally see explained, without BS, why it is not great. Thanks.

Robert Olbert

I agree. I played the public beta and I liked it. I was going to wait to Concord a couple of weeks after release. It was refreshing to have a multiplayer game release with no battle pass or grindy progression systems. It's disappointing that the game was taken offline. It's kind of ominous that the game I only spend an hour on can never be played again. The only other game similar to that I've played is Battleborn, specifically the public beta. But that game on PS4 felt janky to my small recollection 🤣

I just find it suspicious that not a single insider with a good track record and contacts has collaborated the information. In fact every insider that has spoken about budget said they heard much lower. And the ultimate proof is something everyone can check for themselves with Sony’s financial reports. Now for “Hermen’s baby”. Why would he close the studio who made his baby? Why did he pull it after 2 weeks? Those were his decisions. Why has nobody else come out and spoken about the “toxic” development? The studio is closed, people speak to Jason Schrier anonymously all the time. Why did this person reach out to the host of the biggest PlayStation podcast and not JS with this information? It’s seems to be a trend that people love to make Sony look like the worst place in the world to work and they are constantly doing shady things, but in reality it’s the exact opposite. I don’t doubt that Colin spoke to a dev at Firewalk, I do doubt that they would be privy to the budget and I question how not a single other employee has come forward and spoken to JS about “Hermen’s baby”. Hermen shut the studio down!! Several months before the Holidays… people would be pissed, yet not a single report about it, except one person… who chose to tell the biggest PlayStation podcast in the world… and then allowed Colin to speak about it on air lol… no, not suspicious at all

i trust colin's source more than i trust you. i'm sure what you are saying is reasonable. i just trust colin's trust in his source.

The toxic culture around “Hermen’s baby”. lol is as believable as all the fake rumours of Druckman ruling ND with an iron fist. Watch the HZD no clip doc to see what Hermen is like. I met him at E3 2015, and again at TGS this year.. and he was just as polite and humble as always. He’s Dutch!! I also have a hard time believing that Concord cost Sony anywhere close to what Colin has heard. Sony’s financial reports are public… spending the kind of money Colin is suggesting to finish the game plus purchasing the studio would have stuck out like a sore thumb on those financial reports. And using the credits length to say “look how many people worked on the game”. Did you actually watch credits? The text scrolled at 1/4 the speed of HFW, the text is also 3x larger and rather than saying for example “technical artist” and then listing all the technical artists, concord lists each person with technical artist below their name and double spaces each line. Also, Sony credits everyone, even if you worked on the game for less than a day. I’m not denying that Sony lost a good chunk of money on concord (likely ~$120m which includes the studio purchase & initial investment), But between $200-$400m.. not even close. Sony isn’t going to pay PM an amount indicative of the money they lost lol. PM just wanted an out

I bought tri breaker on Steam but I think at $10 I'd buy it again on PSN. Got some store credit burning a hole in my virtual wallet so why not. It is a very unique twist on the old school brick breaker formula. Obviously it won't be winning any game of the year awards in this current climate but as someone who dables in game creation myself I'm really intrigued by this studios work. In addition... Part of solving PSN's curation problem involves adding some of the functionality that Steam has built over the years. Specifically the user created reviews and ratings AND the ability to gift games to other PSN accounts. I've been saying this over a decade now...

The PS5 pro really shines with Final Fantasy Rebirth. Glad I waited to finish the game. Currently on chapter 9

Great episode men, thank you.

Just to double down on a certain point Dustin made - the PS5 Pro upgrade for Stellar Blade is incredible. Like night and day. It gives you the option to toggle back to the base PS5 graphics modes in addition to the Pro ones, and the difference makes you wonder how anyone's playing it on a base console. Absolutely striking on Pro!

Great episode. I will be doing my year in review content soon, and this gave me some good talking points to hit. Thanks! <3

The Outer Wilds 2 was initially advertised as a console exclusive for Xbox. Even Matty and Cog were talking about it on their Xbox retrospective.

As someone who played Concord and owns a physical copy, I can easily believe that those in the boardroom were confident the game could be great. It wasn't revolutionary material, nor did it deserve 10/10, but it didn't deserve the treatment it received. Concord is an example of cancel culture being applied to a video game, and unfortunately, those shouting about obesity and sexual orientation won - hurray. And yes. The style that the logo represented was visible throughout the game. The characters looked like they were taken from niche Japanese sci-fi anime from the 1970s and 1980s. The entire interface had a similar color scheme, which was the best visible in player cards and orders to complete, which were visualized as paper coupons with a tear-off part.

Helldivers 2 and weapon balancing. I guess only a parent will recognize what the studio is doing :) You can't give players only positive feedback all the time, because it's a simple way to get them bored and move on to something else new or old that they came into the game from. Just like children, we cannot spoil them, even though we want to give them a star from the sky. It's a delicate balance and maybe the studio went a bit too far at some point, but look at it from this perspective: for how LITTLE content is added to the game that changes the gameplay (which is not much because only the new faction and the car made a difference), and they don't do other IP collabs with MARVEL or LEGO, they kept the game in great condition. The second thing is that the narrative of Helldivers 2 is conducted like a D&D campaign, i.e. the story is invented on the fly by the game master - if he allowed the "team" to constantly win, how quickly would they pull out Monopoly?

This community will probably disagree with me but I don't necessary think xbox is pulling a sega. They are trying something different never done before in the industry, we'll see if it pays off.

When joking about the Chinese slave labor suicides, and Chris making the fingernail joke, in my mind I riffed off that "Guys I got console #666, and their a suicide note inside from one of the workers!" Sorry, I have a horrible mind and wide sense of humor. Thought you guys might laugh at that, if you even read it while on this holiday break. Which I hope is going great for everyone.

Electric Soup

Probably last year when they took their break lol

Damn, you know Colin is cooked when he can't remember his favorite thing in the world, idioms.

Hot dog, when was the last time we had a SS episode below 3 hours?
