Here are the Dukes thinking in our final episode of the year will be a nice, steady, and quiet exit into the new year, but Xbox had different plans! This week, Satya Nadella addressed investors and claimed that Microsoft’s newest “This Is An Xbox” campaign is specifically defined to, well, redefine what it means to be an Xbox fan. So, what is an Xbox fan now? What is one by the new generation? Will there even be a shiny new box with that new generation at this rate? Every time the Dukes think this conversation is laid to rest, Xbox manages to twist the knife one more time. We also get into Xbox’s Project Rainway, a cross platform Xbox guide system, as well as why The Outer Worlds 2 is PS5 bound! We also sink our teeth into SEGA’s renaissance, what dormant IP Capcom may tackle next, why Starfield has so many loading screens, a boatload of “health is wealth” write-ins, and plenty more in a strong finish to a mighty interesting year for Xbox!

What I see for the past decade is that despite decent titles for the launch for Xbox One, they flopped the push to Kinect, they fumbled the messaging with the "sharing games" thing, it turned out the console was weaker than the PS4 and then they proceeded in having a decade of arguably the best exclusives being on PlayStation and not on Xbox. That last point (exclusives) is the general perspective I see among friends, and this even grew into this generation, where Indy is arguably the first big big hitter (Starfield didn't move as many needles as needed), and only in 2025 lineup (as Matty enumerated) - well over 4 years into the generation - we see a volume of potentially good exclusives. By this point, we've not seen people switching from PlayStation to Xbox, and younger people don't seem to care for consoles anyway. So, you could say the "traditional" console war (as in fighting for exclusives to drive sales of your platform) is, in practice, lost at this point: people are not coming over to the console and making games exclusive would mean just not selling enough volume to survive. On the flipside, I never had an Xbox console, as I am mostly on PC for my entire life of 40y, but ever since GamePass came to PC some years back I've been subscribed on and off - that made it possible for me to be an Xbox costumer where I "couldn't" before. I understand their reasoning for trying to expand their Xbox costumers into different kinds of people (like me and others) and not just the traditional console owner. That being said, it's not like they will stop making the consoles: going wide means they keep that and expand to "every device is an Xbox", imho, and it's not like designing the hardware of the console is such a burden - as they keep getting more PC-like. Not in terms of content or anything, love the attitude and everything about it but I think I’d prefer it a bit deeper into the show? It’s just a long segment to have front loaded. Maybe at the end to cap things off on a positive note? Ultimately up to y’all and will still listen regardless!!

2024-12-19 20:17:42 +0000 UTCMy health is wealth journey has nose dived. We had our son in late September and since then I’ve been slacking. But it has been totally worth it because I enjoy the time spent with my family. I also exercise in my basement and the radon is high down there. I closed the windows for the winter and the radon went from 2 to now 25. I just had a mitigation system put down there and awaiting the new test results. Hopefully the radon is under control now and i can go back to exercising 5 days a week.
