People camping out, running right when it opens attacking each other and the lady in CA who camps out all night. My question for you is how did Gamestop handle opening nights so well with way more people to handle? Are gamers just that much less trouble to deal with? These stores are getting shit on for letting these things happen but every opening night at a gamestop I've seen video from have been very chill and no one's fighting each other. Maybe they need to bring in some old Gamestop staff. If nothing else, Colin now has a possible new YouTube obsession. Hope everyone's Thanksgivings are terrific.

We listen to you guys for your personal perspectives, and that includes your feelings on the games you enjoyed playing most this year. I humbly propose a completely opt-in discussion of your five favorite games of 2024. No need to rank them, just tell us what games you enjoyed most of what you played. End of the year lists expose people to games they may not have otherwise played, and I enjoy adding games I missed to my backlog. I'm sure you already have a roadmap for the rest of the year's Last Stand programming or have even recorded it already, so I will patiently wait for the new year for a potential Sacred Symbols +. Every video game outlet I listen to seems to mention it and whether it belongs, but maybe that was the point all along. I won't pretend to understand how the whole awards process works, but Erd Tree has made a big enough boom for anyone who cares to comment. Is this all just some PR stunt to attract attention to the show? Also, does this make Erd Tree equivalent to Jake or Tyson in boxing terms?

I couldn't remember when it released, so I clicked on it to check. The store lists the release date as March 14, 2024. What is up with that? It's the PS4 version and not a special edition. He claims that M&Ms are candy bars and so far there are only 2 people who have agreed with him, but he’s insistent on his stance. Is he delusional or is he right? So I guess fuck me and everyone else who subbed for a month of Premium thinking it would be our only way to play these games for the foreseeable future. A few coworkers definitely took notice, and absolutely nobody knew that there was a Sony handheld that existed past the PSP. My question is this: If Sony were to re-enter the handheld market after so long (nearly 20 years depending who you ask), what move do they make to stand out against the Switch and Steamdeck? Is the Backbone and/or PlayStation portal already the answer here? Colin, do you still dust off the old Vita every now and again? I had the battery replaced a few years back and look to continue the cycle for as long as is possible. Something very special about that machine. Wish Sony supported it more. Simple, clean design language of logos are under-appreciated I feel. Some of my favourite logos are the classic gj from the amazing band glassjaw, the iconic skeleton from Jurassic park, and the bold left-aligned typeface of the Last of Us. When talking about Geoff’s Awards and who should have win or not, Dustin and Chris said “we don’t care” but spent the whole time saying why they did care. It’s the first time I hear them say that though. Colin, you actually do this a lot. The most recent moment of this happening was in the political Constellations with the Dagster and Jaffe. You clearly stated why you didn’t like Kamala as a candidate, which were fair points but you ended with “I honestly don’t care…” if you truly don’t care then why even talk about it at all? Sometimes it feels like you are putting up a shield by saying “I don’t care” because you actually care about what others might think when you say something. You did this a lot when the ABK deal was happening. You said you didn’t care about it but to me you were very passionate and really did care about the whole situation. It’s ok to care guys. I never understood the concept of a player being called “sweaty” in an MP game as a negative term Does it just generally mean someone’s trying too hard? But doesn’t everyone play an MP game trying to win? Every time I boot up BO6, I just try my hardest and use all my map knowledge and tactics to get as many kills as possible. Sometimes I dominate the lobby, other times I’m dead last. But I still put in the same amount of effort each time. Even when I’m playing a casual game with friends, I still try to get more kills than everyone else. Does that make me a sweaty player? Or does being sweaty imply something more than that? No shade or offense taken of course, just wanted some clarification on what people mean when they call a game sweaty

I went alone because all of my friends had plans that weekend, but I personally really wanted to go see the movie. Upon 10 minutes into the movie, a middle-aged couple sits in the row in front of me and begins yapping at each other louder than the movie. Then they take out their smartphones and intentionally max out the brightness so that everyone sitting in rows behind them are blinded by the white light. After 10 more minutes of their bs I get up, call them “shitheads”, walk out, and get my refund and tell the manager I’m never coming back to this movie Theater ever again. I didn’t confront the couple, I just wanted to leave and never come back. Am I being too hyperbolic in this situation? This has been years of pent up anger at the decline of Theater etiquette for a while. Would you guys have done the same thing after dealing with a similar situation for years on end? Your reasoning the last time this came up was “I’m looking at the screen and the sound should be coming from the screen.” I was an early Dolby Atmos (3D audio) adopter and it’s not something everyone needs but it enhances games, TV, Movies and even music to a certain extent. What made me think about this again was that I was replaying Last of Us Part 1 on PS5 Pro and got to the hydroelectric dam where Tommy is. On your way to the dam, there is a running river going along side you and when you get near the dam, there is a waterfall. Standing near the waterfall I closed my eyes and rotated the camera and heard the raging rapids roar around me. And for horror games it’s fantastic! RE2 being a standout with Mr. X constantly on the move. Sorry for the long post, but my point is, a sound system isn’t about the sound in front of you, but the noises that surround you. I recently watched one of Sophia Narwitz’s youtube videos in which she states that the reason the NPC characters never shut up about how to solve puzzles is because of a streamer called DSP who is apparently very bad at puzzles and Sony Studios used him as a template for how to give hints, ( I guess because they think we’re all bad at puzzles now) so that explains why the NPCs never shut up about how to solve a puzzle when you’ve only been trying to solve it for a minute. Why does sony think we’re all incapable of solving puzzles? Especially when most gamers played Arkham city and caught the Riddler. Thanks and Keep fucking that chicken and/or Turkey!

2024-11-26 21:35:20 +0000 UTCThis is for Colin and Chris (and maybe Dustin): In a past episode you reminisced about playing Mega Man X but complained about the “claw” your hand had to be in to dash and such. Other friends of mine have complained of the same thing and how their hands would ache playing the game because they were constantly dash-jumping to move through levels quicker. But I’ve always felt like the crazy one because since X1 I have always remapped the controller to make dash “R” (SNES) or “R1” (PS). It completely changes the difficulty of those games. If you guys get a chance, try this and see how better those games feel. Never understood why they weren’t set-up that way to begin with. Thanks guys!

From games looking worse than base ps5, games saying they've got patches on the store when in fact they haven't, a £40 price drop 5 days after release from the retailer I got mine from, and then just today blooper team straight up removing PSSR from Silent hill 2. Colin, you say Sony are becoming more and more like Apple, well at least with apple if you pay a premium price you get a premium product and experience. Id like to know the thoughts of you guys on this? Also congrats on tri breaker, it'll be my first lillymo game. While I was interested in buying a 30th Anniversary PS5, I couldn't justify spending hundreds of dollars on a new console that I just don't need. It got me thinking, why doesn't Sony sell 30th Anniversary PS5 shells? They sell I'd be much more willing to spend $50 on a new shell than hundreds on a new PS5 and I imagine I'm not alone. The 30th Anniversary Consoles could be marked with serial numbers so collectors would be able to tell them apart from re-shelled regular PS5s. What do you think? Is this a crazy idea? Should Sony hire me asap for this ingenious idea? This Thanksgiving I'm thankful for all of you slitterheads.

He also said the writing came off preachy because they didn’t present the other point of view, and that made me think about my Assassin’s Creed Odyssey play through. I, a straight male, played as Alexio and I fucked every man and woman NPC I could. I just thought it was funny and I don’t think it really had consequences for the story. Now if Alexio was presented as a bisexual character by Ubisoft I’m sure there would have been much controversy. Instead it wasn’t suggested at all and players were free to make him be whatever they wanted. If studios made that type of character diversity completely player dependent, then everyone wins. As gaming is significantly more mainstream, there are millions of more people playing video games now than there were 25 years ago. Honestly, if it wasn't out-pacing sales of the PS3/4, much less the PS1, I'd be extremely worried. 2024-11-26 20:32:17 +0000 UTCHello gentlemen, Have been listing to Colin since the Beyond days and recently signed up to the Patreon, has been well worth the investment thus far (the constellation episode with Jaffe and Dagan after the election is a shining example of how people with different opinions and views can sit down and talk to each other respectively) With news of the Rebirth director saying he likes Xbox and some of the attention Square has given Microsoft recently, can Final Fantasy come back to be the sales giant it once was? Many people blame the sales “failures” of FF16 and Rebirth on exclusivity but the franchise has always largely sold best across PlayStation consoles regardless I personally loved both games (still playing Rebirth, it’s very girthy) and am a fan of the direction of the series with Remake being more traditional if you will and the mainline series being more experimental…however, is it realistic to stay the course per Square’s sales goals? If not, what do you think the series needs to get back to be the behemoth it once was (i.e. selling as much as Sony first party titles, a la God of War, Horizon)?

Simply put: developed nations like the US almost always see the birth rate decline precipitously to the point that the population actually shrinks, and most western democracies like the US have seen this happen. There are fewer 18-year-olds to even try to recruit to go to college, let alone trying to convince people that going to college is worthwhile for them right now. For me, this all connects directly with the current gaming situation and the discussion for "new growth opportunities" and finding new users. It is many of the historically largest markets for gaming that are experiencing these demographic declines, so there are fewer young players to newly expose to gaming. Thus, reaching new markets like China or India is important, of course, for growing the base, but as we know, there are many issues with that, too... Do you have thoughts on this? I've been really surprised that no one in games media seems to think about it this way. I'll hang up and listen now - happy thanksgiving to all of you, your families, and the LSM audience.

The lead installer, Jerry, seemed like a nice guy, probably in his late thirties/early forties, and asked me to show him where the couch would be placed. Never would have pegged him as a gamer. As we walked out, Jerry spotted my PS5 Pro and asked me what I thought of it. The fact that he could distinguish between the base and pro models told me all I needed to know about his level of gaming knowledge. We spent the rest of the install chatting about our stand-out games of the year (Astro Bot & Stellar Blade were among his personal favorites). Anyway, I just thought this was a really cool moment. It’s always so fun to discover that a total stranger loves the same hobby that you do. Jerry, if you’re a Sacred Symbols listener, thanks for the install and happy gaming. The couch is sick. I know its long but its absolutely worth it. My family went to a private party of roughly 50 people. Our neighbors, a married couple, came with us. The husband was a perpetually drunk 2 meter tall dutch man - thats 6 ft 5. for you yanks. A huge guy. On the way to the party he told us he had been eating spicy Indian curry all night and that his stomach was a bit upset. Nevertheless when we got to the party he proceeded to keep drinking heavily. At some point the music was playing and he got up to dance amongst a small crowd with me nearby. Suddenly I see a strange expression come over his sweaty face. He glances and me and sees me noticing his strange behavior and leans in to tell me in a very serious voice- "Im shitting myself right now.." Strangely enough he continued to dance for about a minute while shitting his pants before eventually making his way to the bathroom. He comes back 10 minutes later looking rather pleased with himself. I ask him whats up. He tells me he wrapped his shitty underwear in toilet paper and put them in his wife's purse. At this point I can only imagine the consequences. We eventually leave the party and start to make our way back home to our street nearby. As we leave the building he turns to his wife and tells her, "Darling there's something I need to tell you," looking rather embarrassed. A look of bewilderment develops on her face as he recounts the story of how he shit himself and put his shitty underwear in her purse. After a few seconds of silence that felt like an eternity, she looks him dead in the eyes and says- "I didn't bring a purse." To this day I have never laughed harder. To the woman who got an alcoholic Indian curry mega shit in her purse- I'm truly sorry on behalf of all humanity you had to experience that.

If you had 1 crack at getting any information out of Xbox and you knew it was going to be accurate, what are a couple of metrics you would you want to see? Using the newest Black Ops 6 as an example: What % of those players played the game for more than 30 minutes What % of those players first played the game on Gamepass, and then went on to actually purchase the game as well What % of players bought 1-month of Gamepass, and then cancelled after that month

If they truly want that status, the unboxing experience of the PS5 Pro is just not allowed to happen. Apple spends untold billions to make sure the unboxing experience of all their products makes you feel like you’re opening something special. Opening the PS5 Pro felt like I was opening the box of a $20 toaster. How is this allowed to happen? Colin brings up almost weekly how converted he is to 60 fps, and the why and how that happened. Well, I'm here to say that it's not the PS5 and not the games that converted you. It's your TV. Let me explain. Every single screen, that was ever made, has a built in motion smoothing feature. It takes precious miliseconds for some tiny crystal to shift their position and show a different color. Every single screen... except OLEDs. OLEDs generate the new image on top of the old one jarringly instant. So jarringly that even the snobbiest of movie snobs, have to allow for a tiny bit of motion smoothing, when watching some old 24p black and white movies. They are unwatcheble otherwise, and will cause a literal headache. This is called pixel response time, and is separate from the input lag a TV manufacturer advertises. The good news is, that if you want to go back to enjoy PS3 era, 20 fps games, all you have to do is, purchase the cheapest LED LCD tv you can find, or achieve the exact same result by enabling the motion smoothing feature in your OLED. Yes, this will add input lag. No, it will not be nearly as big as a PS3 era tv had. 2nd and final attempt to get this read. Cheers, Cristian,

Starting with some UK based shows who would mention the big American podcasts which led me to Sacred and LSM. Unfortunately I just found out this week that the host of my first regular podcast passed away over the weekend. He was a fan of Colin since the Beyond days and a massive Sony Pony! A major part of the Portal's update (4.0??) was to correct the micro stuttering issues seen in both PS4 and PS5 remote play. With this fix, I've seen a night and day difference in my remote play experience while using my Portal. Hopefully, Sony can continue to push the tech further, for even more performance. It's s book about the history of EGM, which comes with a digital archive of issues and a lost issue being released (at a certain tier) Wondering what your thoughts on this are and if you were fans of EGM in the past or was it more Gamepro and Nintendo Power. I’m thankful that I’ll never run out of great games to play. And I’m thankful that I’m able to count on the consistency of LSM content to keep me company.
