Introducing Tri Breaker: A Sacred Symbols Odyssey, Launching in December

Our newest title is called Tri Breaker: A Sacred Symbols Odyssey. It’s a direct sequel to our third game, 2020’s Twin Breaker: A Sacred Symbols Adventure, and it’s launching this December (next month!) on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. (As usual, there’d be a Vita version too, except… well… y’know.)

If Twin Breaker was a brick breaker with an unnecessarily intense sci-fi story, Tri Breaker is a heavily-modified brick breaker that’ll be both familiar and foreign to those who experienced the original. Instead of playing a more Arkanoid or Breakout-like campaign full of similar stages, we’ve instead molded a product with even more traditional arcade roots. Yes, you’ll be destroying bricks, but you’ll also be doing a whole lot beyond merely that. Just look at the trailer! For those that grew up in the ‘80s and ‘90s in particular, you should be right at home. And if you didn’t? Well, enjoy all that youth offers you.
Naturally, as Tri Breaker’s full name suggests, it continues Twin Breaker’s tradition of some how, some way existing in the universe of Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast. At least, the characters will be quite familiar. Veterans of the Twin Breaker campaign will remember a plot all about two pilots -- Colin and Chris -- who uncover the mystery of disappearing generation ships launched by NASA in hopes of discovering new life and new worlds. But now, the two men are retired, and for some reason they live together in a mansion, whittling away their days in chosen obscurity.
But a new mystery is afoot! As rogue elements in the US government begin learning more from the data the duo brought back from their voyage, it becomes clear that the story is far from over, and that it’s not so easy to turn the page after making first contact. And an all-new character -- a government whistleblower coincidentally named Dustin -- joins the fray, convincing the boys to come out of seclusion and help save the world yet again, this time with a distinct twist that’s less about space, and more about time. (We also gave Dustin a distinctly phallic ship, as we thought that’d be funny.)
Tri Breaker: A Sacred Symbols Odyssey will cost $9.99, and as usual, we look at it as a “weekend game,” something to keep you company as an interstitial between all of the amazing stuff that has come out this year. And while the original enjoyed a self-imposed period of timed exclusivity on PlayStation, we’ll be launching on all platforms (somewhat) simultaneously this time around. But, if you do play on PlayStation, you’ll get totally different Trophy lists for the PS4 and PS5 versions, a tradition we began with 2022’s Super Perils of Baking. Barry and I are Trophy dorks to the core, after all.
And, as I (Colin) am writing this, allow me to congratulate Barry on another job very well done. I wrote Tri Breaker’s story, and I certainly had some hands on overall presentation and design, but as usual, this is very much a Barry Johnson Joint, assisted by a small legion of talented artists that helped provide our new game with the art, music, and so on you see and hear. Comparably, I did very little. They did all the hard work, and I’m excited for this newest project to see the light of day.
In the coming weeks (at most), we’ll have a release date and a launch trailer to further whet your appetite, and in 2025, we’ll have even more to show you out of our growing catalog at Lillymo. No, we haven’t forgotten about the JRPG. Yes, it’s very much still in development. No, we didn’t bite off more than we could chew. Okay, yes, maybe we did. But that’s game dev!
