The sound track is brilliant, perhaps that is the one thing. The combat is absolutely not impeccable, it lacks any real agency or dynamism. Most fights it is irrelevant what the enemy is doing unless it is some charged attack that one hits you so you need to do something specific to avoid it. Beyond that it’s just combat that serves to mark time. The visuals at launch were terrible at 60fps, need a pro for it to look even good - very far from top tier. I also don’t understand how it can be a critique made in bad faith? What reason would I have for that.

Rebirth is one of the most overrated games I’ve ever played. I cannot think of one thing beyond a nice cast of characters that this game does well? The open world is just 2007 Ubisoft but with more filler. Those open world sections have a gimmick chocobo in each section with for at least 3 of the regions is completely terrible - Gongaga Jesus wept. The game features almost entirely no narrative. But the absolute worst thing are just the general ‘who signed off on this’ moments. The boxes in chapter 12 - what? Most major boss fights that just add some random mechanic to make it an obtuse fight in the hopes of making it difficult - it just makes it frustrating and unfair. Not being able to fast travel properly until the end of the game and then you are constantly locked from that anyway. You complete all the side quests in a region just for it to then spit more filler quests out, Honestly no idea why this or the first remake received such praise - terribly overrated. They achieve ultimately beyond fan service.

Chris missed the actual payoff of the chicken quest. You get irritated with the first 3 then distraught for the 4th that you’ll have to go all the way back to then after fight it goes off on its own.

I feel the same way about ff7 rebirth. Such an amazing story to be bogged down by the horrible open-world and just constant uninspired side missions. Theres some amazing side missions but overall not great. The jungle region is so bad to traverse through I hated it so bad. Chris you haven’t seen the worst of the bloat yet.
