And maybe I over-prepared a bit, with 10 pages of typed notes amounting to 3,900 words. But here's the thing: Dagan doesn't have time to finish the game because he picked up a new animation gig, and yet, I don't want my unnecessarily thorough preparation to go to waste. So instead of KnockBack this week, you're getting a second Sacred+ episode, and I drafted three fellow Final Fantasy nerds to assist me. As such, please welcome Summon Sign's Brad Ellis, Punching Up's Gene Park, and LSM legal analyst Rick Hoeg for a three-plus hour convo all about 2020's Final Fantasy VII Remake. I'm now finally prepared to play Rebirth! (Please note: This podcast heavily spoils the original Final Fantasy VII, Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, Advent Children, and Remake itself. It DOES NOT spoil Rebirth, which I [Colin] haven't even played at the time we're recording.)

I do hope the rebirth spoiler cast does a mini reflection where context is put into place and more into understanding. Awesome episode and I’m glad that Colin still got to do this!

Through the original game and Yakuza Like a Dragon, I’ve gotten a lot more used to the anime style of games, but wow Yuffie pushes it too far that she’s so grating every time she’s on screen. Fort Condor is fire tho

Remake has one of the best hard modes in the business imo since it forces you to be an expert with the materia and level them up completely. It was fun managing mp and doing the harder sections of the story like the end of chapter…16? With the 3 boss fights in a row. I do think it’s too hard for you though, as the combat trials on hard are REALLY hard and I think the difficulty rating underestimates it bad. I platted returnal for example and thought it was really easy, beat a lot of biomes 1st try. Can easily do titanfall2 trial run. Really struggled with the combat challenge, and specifically just 1 part. Just want to warn you as someone who thinks they’re getting too old for some of these sweatier challenges

My daughter was just born so I’ve been slowly making my way through replaying the original FF7, Remake, and finally getting to the Crisis Core remake. I’m glad to there’s a podcast out there that’s going at the pace I am right now. I’m so hyped for Rebirth as I’m listening to this with a sleeping baby in my arms.

2024-03-28 22:17:04 +0000 UTCColin I think you might be underestimating the Hard Mode. It’s not the type of hard mode you can just revisit later down the line. It’s balanced in a way that you need to be very familiar with the games mechanics and have your party maxed out and grinding out max materias. It’s basically this game’s endgame. No healing items and no way to restore MP until the end of the chapter. Makes the game pretty tough but VERY rewarding.

2024-03-28 08:37:49 +0000 UTCThe entire plot was a brisk 40 hours in FF7. Remake is an alt timeline sequel that's expanded to include a tonne more depth at the expense of pacing. If you don't understand what's even happening or why it matters then either dive into the original and the compilation material or just don't worry about it if it's not for you.

Two games in and yet to see why this is considered one of the greatest stories in gaming. Might get hate for this but FF16 puts these two remakes to shame in every single way. I will say barret is the only great character in my opinion the rest are meh.

2024-03-28 02:36:33 +0000 UTCThis is one of those games where of the half dozen friends of mine I regularly talk to who were big fans of the original only one of them really enjoyed it as opposed to the near universal praise I read for it online, to the point I am often asking myself if we played the same game. Turned most of us off from playing the rest of the new series. Mostly due to combat and most but not all story changes.

Now I’m a huge fan and am excited to get to Rebirth. Hyped to listen to this as I get the final Remake trophies!
