Bro you can hold back tears better than I can lol. I tear up too easily and I've seen this show an ungodly amount of times 😭. The fact that your brother uses partial expansion jutsu on you It's pretty funny 😂. At work? Crap I thought you were like 16 lol. Not a bad thing though, good genes 🤷. To be honest I think the symbolism of the butterfly is simply kind of like how a gluttonous caterpillar fattens themselves up before it's metamorphosis into butterfly. Same with choji, who is fat and then loses that fat to change into his final stage. Symbolic for change basically

I can definitely understand skipping most of the filler, but there are some hidden gems in the filler pit, like the naruto and Ino one, that I really think you guys will enjoy.

The butterfly is actually in his first name, it's 'Chou'. I actually knew that because of the song Kin iro no Choushou from Umineko. When you think about it the same is true of Shika(deer)maru and Ino (pig). The animal associated with their clan is in their first name and not their last name. Same thing with their parents

Yes, I don't understand your reasoning at all. I don't think the part you cut out was boring; in fact, it was action-packed. When Jirobo lifted that boulder and slapped Naruto and Kiba aside like they were nothing, and even after everyone tried to beat Jirobo together at the same time, they were still getting their butts handed to them. Even after all that, Shikamaru concluded that it would take two of them to beat Jirobo. That's why he chose Naruto and himself to stay back and face Jirobo, not just one person. Without this context, you don't understand how strong Jirobo really was.

Plus it’s just great thematically and emotionally

Totally agree. I feel like his fight makes the most sense power scaling wise out of the sound fights as well. The other ones kinda stretched the strength of the boys a little much at least from what I remember. Choji having the pills makes it make more sense.

I know for sure that when Choji stopped Jirobo, there was no context for why that was impressive, and I really don't think it registered in the reaction because of that lack of context. When Jirobo was causing earthquakes and lifted that boulder, all of Choji's teammates were impressed by Jirobo's strength. That's why his teammates doubted Choji and mocked him; that was the message they were trying to display to the audience so that moment would be more impactful. Plus, you also removed all of the context for why Choji needed to stay back. Without that context, it seemed trivial. The reason why Choji stayed back was because he wanted to protect Shikamaru's reputation as a leader. Also, during the parts that you cut out, they explained why they all couldn't just stay behind and fight him. They needed to get Sasuke before he reached the border; otherwise, it would be too late. I'm pretty sure that was also explained in the parts that you cut out. Without that context, it seems like Choji stayed back for trivial reasons or that they really did throw him aside like he was a joke.

Just fyi 102-106 are filler so we didn’t watch them 😆

Maybe I shouldn’t have, but i felt that we could get a sense of his strength from his other actions enough 😆 That part isn’t bad, but it dragged on for WAY too long, and although it adds to how strong we think jirobo is, I think the tank in pacing outweighs it, and everything still makes perfect sense without it.
As for why he stayed to fight, I take it that he stayed because he felt he was a good match for jirobo, and also, like jirobo was saying, he wanted to do something for his team. I like the idea that choji got more motivated as the fight progress and shikimaru was insulted more and more!
Like I said, I maybe should’ve left them in, but I know my mom would’ve lost a little interest watching the boys get rocks and earthquakes thrown at them for 10 minutes with no consequence. Just my opinion tho, and I’m sorry if you feel I kinda ruined it 💛

Choji's scenes in this are one of the best parts of the entire arc. I cry every time.

Did you cut out the part where Jirobo demonstrated his strength creating those earthquakes and lifting up that massive Boulder. Not sure I agree with that, that undermines what Choji managed to achieve here a little. I think you also skipped over the reason why he chose to fight the part when Jirobo was ridiculing shikamaru is the reason why he chose to fight on his own.

Choji the goat! Even though the Zabuza and Chunin exams arcs were amazing this was easily my favorite arc! Stakes couldnt have felt any higher and all the boys really got to grow as characters!
