First, as a Canadian, sorry about the White House eh! But just a small clarification, Toronto (then York) was in *Upper* Canada, not Lower Canada. I know it's counterintuitive because "lower" connotes south, but it's a named for being further up (Upper) the St. Lawrence River to the colonists coming over from Europe. Keep up the good work!

Thunderstorm that Saved D.C. (part of The Weather Channel program) During the War of 1812 British troops occupy Washington DC after defeating an American army on the outskirts of the capitol. As night falls the invading troops destroy the seat of American Government. The Capitol, Treasury and White House are all set alight. But the occupation is short-lived. The following day a violent thunderstorm hits the city. It spawns a deadly tornado that destroys buildings spared by the British. But the storm also helps save the city; it prevents British troops from wreaking further havoc and the accompanying torrential rain helps douse the flames. Thirty British troops are killed in the storm and once the storm has passed the British quietly retreat from the city. Washington is saved by its weather. Loved this episode Colin! The War of 1812, though a more niche corner of American history, holds a special place for me as I consider a report I wrote on the subject back in elementary school, to be the origin of my love of history. Some of these more intimate stories really help to bring this event into perspective.

I know this has nothing to do with this, but when you said we're gonna go back to the year 1814 - makes me think of the song "Battle of New Orleans" - In 1814 we took a little trip, Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississippi We took a little bacon and we took a little beans And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans" - I digress --- Really love when we talk a little war related history. Since we're discussing wars that aren't as spoken of as often, have you considered doing anything on Teddy and the Spanish American war?

Another super fascinating tale, I really enjoy the focus on these particular events. I was particularly hooked with the stories about Dolly Madison and James Monroe. On a more technical note, I find the camera positioning a bit odd. Usually (at least for me) it's always better when you can't see the legs and especially the crotch area. I guess "unprofessional" is the best way I can describe it, not that I want the show to be too serious or anything but I think it would look better and more polished with a different camera postioning (maybe raising the camera and/or the angle could do it). Apart from this I'm enjoying CLS even more than I expected, keep it up!
