Queen Charlotte E4 - Holding The King [Reaction]

And now we learn why George has been acting the way he has. Never judge a book by it's cover people. God, I feel for my wee Georgie! He is dealing with so much and I get sad thinking about all the people who have went through something similar back in the old days and just got called mad. But also, Charlotte is well within her right to be annoyed and upset with this whole situations as she has been left completely in the dark!

COMMUNICATION IS KEY PEOPLE!

I loved this episode even though I HATED the doctor. There is something so disgustingly evil about that man and I need him to stay far away from George! The fact he purposely ruined the moment George found out about having a child (if that's even true), which made George spiral, have an episode and then he felt as though he had to go back to the Doctor... it royally pissed me off!!! I HATE HIM!!!!!!

Only two more to go!

I am loving rewatching through your lens. Hi I'm a newbie here!

on the mention of schizophrenia: that's one of the disorders he's theorized to have had but there are other disorders that have psychosis as a symptom, including bipolar disorder (which is another disorder he's theorized to have had)

They never actually diagnosed him, but the best fit with his symptoms would be Porphyria. Pain areas: in the abdomen Gastrointestinal: constipation, nausea, or vomiting Skin: rashes, blister, or darkening of the skin Whole body: nervous system dysfunction or water-electrolyte imbalance Muscular: cramping or muscle weakness Sensory: pins and needles or sensitivity to light Also common: anxiety, blood in urine, fast heart rate, itching, mental confusion, or seizures

to be honest, Doctor Monro was a real figure who did work at bethlem (Bedlam) hospital and was known for his mad and harsh practices that were both physical and mental to make sure people submitted. He even let people pay to come see the people at bedlam as if they were exhibitions all to demean those and let people (mostly women) walk around naked to rid them of any possession. this wasn't just him of course but the practice of the whole place. It's funny you should say 'at that time' because even doctors in that time from different schools of thought and practices, thought his practices to be severely wrong and out of hand.

That is sad and interesting at the same time. Thanks for sharing this with us!

I think you’re feelings towards the doctor are completely valid. Cause I myself immediately had the feeling, that the doctor is simply using George as his guinea pig. I hated him from the start!

Frances

If you like this you should react to My Lady Jane its got similar vibes but is very funny

I think out of all the episodes, this one made me cry the most. The lack of care or empathy towards people like George is heartbreaking and its so sad we have only JUST gotten over our stigmas. However while this episode punches you in the face, the next two just straight up shoot you

Don’t worry, Niall! We all feel the same frustration you have towards the doctor. Like you said, back then those were the go-to methods for treating unknown illnesses and honestly, I don’t even want to imagine how many people suffered because of those so-called “cures.” Now, about the episode… oh, what heartbreak! Poor George, completely lost, with no idea what’s wrong or how to fix it, yet still trying to find a cure so he can be with Charlotte. And Charlotte? She’s suffering too, with no clue about what’s truly going on. Then there’s the queen mother, carrying this weight, not just as a mother but as the mother of the king. That's not easy. Honestly, this story had me in tears! But what a great show!

I'm speaking from the perspective of someone with bipolar (2, not 1) but several members of my family have the dreaded 1. They've concurred with me on this, but that doesn't make it 100% accurate. Disclaimer out of the way: It certainly looks like bipolar 1 to me. His speedy manner of speech when he's gearing up into an episode, the tremors, and, really, the inability to control the mania. When I'm in a manic state, it feels like *I* am a person in my head being held down while someone else speaks with my voice and does things with my movements. Thankfully, the only time I've felt mania that strongly was before my diagnosis (did you know antidepressants can trigger and worsen mania in bipolar patients? I sure didnt!). The saddest thing I can think of, if this is truly what George has, is that it explains his lack of many lucid moments in our present Bridgerton time. Episodes for bipolar folks are essentially brain damage that gets worse over time. So, the goal is to limit those as much as possible. When you're unmedicated, like George is, every day is your last best day. And that sucks. It really really sucks.
