Luca (2021) Reaction

One word to describe this film: CUTE!!

This film was so simple yet so effective. It captured the curiosity of youth and it made me actually sob, which I truly did not expect it to do. One of the best films I've seen.

Omg... Was the horror movie you watched and talked about Totally Killer? Lol. Loved that movie

Luca is so incredibly underrated. It’s so sweet and beautiful. And I love all the bright colors and how it has that childlike wonder to it

I always forget how hard this one makes me cry haha. Just ugly sobbing by the end. Love watching reactions w you feels like I’m not doing it alone. Thanks for being vulnerable and honest with us ❤️🥳😭😭😭

i also think being a seamonster is an allegory for being queer, having to hide who you are to be accepted. And when Luca pretends to be Scared of Alberto, it’s kinda like when closeted people pretend to be homophobic or follow the bigger group for their own safety. There’s so many parts of this film that could be an amazing allegory for queerness AND just feeling othered by society for whatever way

I’m first generation Italian-American, and my mom’s family is all still in Italy. I spent every summer growing up there and studied there in college. It holds such a very special place in my heart and I treasure everything about my Italian heritage. Watching this movie always brings me to tears because it makes me miss my second home and second family so so much. It captures small town Italian life beautifully, and the town of Porto Rosso looks so much like the town my family is from, so I literally get goosebumps when I see it. This movie is so well made, and it has so much heart and soul. I think there’s an incredible amount of hidden depths to the story and you can come away from it with any number of interpretations, but that’s part of what makes it so special and why I think it resonates with so many people. I’m so glad I had the chance to watch this again with you and that you enjoyed it as much as you did 💜

easily one of my favorite recent pixar's movies as of late. it's a shame this movie came out during the pandemic and therefore didn't get the audience i felt like it deserved. love everything from the simple but sweet storytelling, to the beautiful animation, to the music. i'll forever keep yelling at disney to put this soundtrack on vinyl! also there's a really cute short the creators did post movie called "cia alberto" that's about alberto's life in the town now that he's moved in and him describing his day to day life in a letter to luca. it's on disney plus but you can also watch it here https://youtu.be/-whxBUOQEzA?si=FbgEHwHrRd0lEmA5

I saw this back when it came out but I don't think I gave it a fair chance, so I'm glad I got to try it again. It reminds me of a Ghibli movie, just like you said, simple and quiet and so so pretty.

Rhetorical Thrill

This is my favourite Pixar movie, I probably would have requested it if I had realized you hadn't seen it. Luckily I have another movie I plan to request that has some similarities to this, I hope it'll make you cry too lol

fun random fact: I minored in Italian Studies and have lived/studied in Italy, and this movie was great to watch with the Italian dub while I was in school and trying to immerse myself language-wise, I recommend it to anyone learning Italian!

Sabrina

So glad you watched this one! It’s such a cute movie, I’m glad you loved it! ☺️❤️

Sabrina

Such an amazing film. Can't wait for the inside out 2 reaction too

Daniel Cutler

I watched this with my 12 year old cousin and sat there bawling whilst he looked at me like I was insane 😂

your reaction to this was exactly like mine honestly when i first saw this movie. 'you got me off of the island, luca' still sends me into floods of tears. i'd recommend the official short 'ciao alberto', too! it's not long at all, just 8 minutes, but it focuses on alberto after luca leaves and it's so cute and wholesome.

One of my favorite Disney movies, I can't stop crying🥹🥹
