“Hey, your hair looks nice!” (Ideally a woman you’re close with, like a friend) is a compliment.
“You should smile more” is a suggestion you make to a woman so she looks more visually appealing to you more often.
See the difference?

good luck on that one. If a guy doesn't regularly call a girl she automatically assumes he ghosted her. "He hasn't called me in a week! He must not care for me any more!" "Miss your boyfriend died from a stroke 3 days ago and you weren't on his emergency call list."

as i understand it, the "you'd be prettier if you smiled more" is one of those compliments that get used to denigrate people - there was a lot of examples of it when Trump was running for office five years ago

I am a guy and was given told I had a nice butt once by a woman in the metro. I was taken aback, wasn’t really interested in her, but said thank you. I liked having the compliment, since that rarely happens.
Would i feel different if it happened all the time? I can’t say for sure.

I hate women who are so hyper sensitive over compliments. Hell, nowadays we can’t even tell some women that they look beautiful without them taking it as a sexual advance. Then have the audacity to make baseless claims on how we men would also feel the same way if it was to happen to us.

Deserved and also something i would like to see more often. Girls make compliments or take the first step it's 2022 not the 19th century where you have to wait
