trick to get your first kick of the drop to slap ya ancestors

ok quick little totally unpro tip here but just did this for a bass demo. getting the first kick to pop through the mix is so important cuz you don't wanna go through some crazy ass build up that's redlining til the drop and then the drop hits and you're like where the fucks the kick. biggest buzz kill ever at a festival.

this is a common problem in rly loud tracks, even if you're clipping the master, not limiting (it's even worse when ur limiting). i'm talking like -4 to -2 LUFs. cuz all the transients are just molded together at 0dB. in order to have an impact you gotta have some sort of dynamics.

so the idea is that you don't want anything to mess up the transient of this first kick. doesn't matter how strong your sidechain since that's not gonna solve your pre-transient problem. what u do is go through all the sounds that are playing right before the kick and you just do a little fade out like the pic. it's like 3-5 ms or something like that, right before the kick's transient. it's barely audible but you'll notice a better impact once that kick hits.
