Unfortunately, her friend had accidentally handed her the wrong bottle without realizing it. This is why it is always important to read the label before consuming magical concoctions:
"WARNING: This bottle contains a deadly magic poison. The contents of this potion will transmute the drinker into a lifeless animal plush. Unless an antidote is ingested before the changes are complete, the drinker will be reduced to an insentient object permanently. Use with caution to avoid accidental ingestion. One drop and your enemies will make a fine trophy for your nightstand."
