He got infected with nanobots that are constantly trying to rewrite his existence into an African wild dog, due to an error at their laboratories while researching endangered species rehabilitation programs. It was originally designed to alter species of canid that are close relatives of the African wild dog as a way to repopulate. They didn't know it would work on humans as well. Every few months he must take pills designed to keep the nanobots in check and keep him human. All it takes is one mistake and there is no going back. This month he remembered a little too late.
