Whats good people its tip day. (Note: Serum bass patches coming next week :) )
Today were gonna look at how to add reverb effectively to the end of your Foghorn bass.
Its really simple so lets take this picture apart.
As you can see im using ableton and valhalla reverb, you can use any you like.
The red automation line represents the MIX part of valhalla, which is basically controlling the reverb amount.
Ive pulled it up as it reaches the end of the midi note, adding reverb to the tail end of the foghorn, ive left it go slightly beyond the note so the reverb shines on for a few seconds, and then pulled it down before the next note comes in to give it a fade out.
I know this seems really simple, but the amount of people who add reverb to their whole sound and lose the power at the front of their bass is actually quite common.
To Sum up
Automate your Reverb on the tail end of the bass only
Allow the reverb to continue and fade out after the note ends
You can do this with any reverb including ones inside of VSTS such as serum or massive.
NOTE: You can of course add reverb almost straight away and have alot more if you wish, this bass im using isnt a super crazy sound so i went subtle with it, Of course i know your sub channel is separate, as it should be, the reverb on the whole sound wont affect your sub, were trying to give mids more power as it drops, not save the sub, if you DO have your sub on your foghorn, separate them into 2 tracks, (one with sub only, one with no subs) and add this effects to your no subs track only, any questions, message me x
Hope this helps someone out x
