Great reaction, allow me to clarify some things The witch cult are worshippers of the witch of envy Satella, and when Betelgeuse mentions their "lord" he refers to Satella, but Satella is sealed as we learned before, the dragon and the great hero fought her together and only managed to seal her, yet her influence on the world still remains as we can with Subaru getting his Return by death ability from her. The reason why the witch cultists thought Subaru was weird and took away, and even thought he was "Pride" was because he has a very strong smell (the witch's miasma) and to them, that is a sign of love from Satella, which is why he kept mentioning Subaru being so loved. Betelgeuse left Subaru in the cave, because as he said "I am honestly not sure what to do with you, so I will leave you bound here, if our lord wants you saved, you will be saved" he was thinking that if Satella wanted him saved, he would somehow end up being saved, they believe that despite being sealed, Satella has the power to do that.
