Yeah, Garf's divine protection was foreshadowed a couple of times, one example is in episode 15, when he fought Otto, just when Ram intervened, he created an earth wall to protect himself from Ram's blast. Garf also doesn't wear any shoes, because he needs to be on the ground with his bear feet to be able to use his divine protection.
