Female Link Friday - Experiment (+ Bonus)
Added 2025-01-24 01:28:50 +0000 UTCI wanted to experiment with lighting, but I was dissatisfied with my results. Instead of forcing myself to produce an artwork that reaches a "certain acceptable level of quality," I decided to fight that inclination by creating something much simpler. I don't want to pressure myself.
Something about the colour in Link's face feels somewhat romantic; evocative of a specific art style, though I'm not sure what. Perhaps it has something to do with those colourful, rosy cheeks amidst a snow white face. Though it also feels similar to my watercolour style too.
Anyway, I've also included the failed illustration too. You might still like it, and it's good to show that sometimes even I fail despite being perfect in every way.

2025-01-24 03:16:01 +0000 UTCExcellent choice. Most of the graphic artists I support post rough sketches, and I enjoy those.. some of my favorite pieces have less than ten lines. And even at that level artists have clear styles. I'd probably get tired of nothing but 1-minute gesture studies, but they're a wonderful addition to more processed work. 'Failed' experiments are pure gold.. you can try something new and post the result whether you like it or not. If you don't like it, you can explain why, which is an interesting view of your process. Then if you feel like trying the piece again, you can post the new one and compare it to the previous one. That's far more interesting than a single piece and the comment "there was another version I didn't like much." I'm not an art director looking for one print-ready proof before deadline and under budget, or a gallery owner looking for nine pieces that will sell by the end of the month. I'm a patron interested in your canon and the development of your style. Sketches, drafts, experiments, abandoned pieces, and progress shots are all part of what I consider valuable. And yes, I see things I like in both of the pieces above.. gesture, anatomy, linework, facial expression, color choice.. all interesting.

It's like if someone had witnessed her and seeing her with that bright and vibrant smile, her flushed cheeks, and that mesmerizing look in her eyes... It would make anybody fall in love with her. The 2nd illustration, the colors have a darker hue to them, but it conveys to the viewer that this Fem Link is enjoying a bath in a shaded and comforting area. Plus, the way her body is drawn is not only appropriate for the scenario she's in, but very sensual as well! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
