The above photo is a still from "The Shadow Out of Time", which is currently my most sucessful YouTube video. You can briefly glimpse this shot on a screen operated by the time-hopping Yith race. You can't do a time-travel flick without including some dinos, can you? The carcass on the ground is the Triceratops from my LoneAnimator logo animation, with some Photoshop ribs and gore added. The big carnivore is not, as everyone who sees it assumes, a T-rex. It's supposed to be a Megalosaur, a brutish early big predator from the Jurassic age. I've always felt that it's very neglected by filmmakers, so way back in the early 2000's I built my very own Megalosaur and used it in a kiddie film project, that turned out so bad that I'll not discuss it any further.
At the time I lifted down Mr Megalosaur from his shelf to include him in "Shadow" his skin had started to deteriorate so badly that I couldn't really do much animation on him. In the finished bit of film he's nuzzling the carcass and looks up, moving his tail slightly. Which is fine; it's acceptable animal behavior. He's now retired from the acting business.
Strangely enough I haven't done much dinosaur animations, which is a bit of a sin since my biggest influence is still the original "King Kong." However, I have at least one juicy dino project planned, and I hope I'll be able to get started on that during this year. I'm also providing some animated dinos for an upcoming King Kong fan project.
