This is actually based upon true English history with king James who was king in Scotland as James the VI. He became king of Scotland as a child barely a year old when Mary queen of Scots was forced to abdicate in his favor while 4 regents governed until he came of age in 1578. In 1603 he assumed the throne of England and Ireland when Queen Elizabeth I died leaving no heir. James died in 1625 and from his beginnings he was known to be a lover of men. Each of the characters are real people. As we probably will see George Villiers, becomes the Duke of Buckingham by being his lover and a very influential man in league with Princes Charles Jamesβs son. We have already met Robert Carr, Earl of Somerset, one of his most favorite lovers. Everyone had a wife if only to have heirs including James who had married Queen Ann of Denmark. She was 14 yrs old but was his queen for many years died in 1619.. Thought youβd like to have a bit of background. It was king James that instigated the now famous King James Version of the Bible.
