I can see it both ways that's why I think its important to tell him to do his coursework but also talk to him , understand why he might be in this position in first place.

I wanted to stop early on in this episode (about 4 mins in) and say that yes as a parent it would be good to help your child focus on coursework BUT Charlie’s mom is absolutely cold to him. She doesn’t even see that he is struggling as a young person. It’s NICK that notices his eating disorder it’s TORI that comforts him. Did you notice how she just steamrolled over the dad suggesting not a total ban? She doesn’t give a shit about Charlie’s mental health as it’s even more clear in the books. She wasn’t nice at all about his saying Nick was his boyfriend and basically said he looks straight and assumed him gay. Also in an upcoming scene she implies that they have “plenty of drama” at their house. Like really bitch?! It’s your son and your job as a parent.

That argument scene between Nick, his brother and mother was incredible. The acting in that was top dollar. And Charlie being caught in the middle of it while everyone else argues, I really felt that. Of course, the scene was horrible to watch, but it felt so realistic.

We’ll be having no Bi Erasure, please and thank you😤 (Though as a bisexual, I’m glad they showed it. It’s so common and people need to be educated on how harmful it is). Great episode🙌

This is a bit of a stressful episode, which concerned me the first time I watched it, though obviously, you have to have conflict to have a show. And of course, I always have faith in Alice that everything in the show will be thoughtfully and sensitively handled. I do think my favorite scene in this episode is the one with Tao and his mother in his bedroom. I think the problem I have with Charlie’s mother is not that she is taking steps to make sure he concentrates on his schoolwork but, as you said, that she doesn’t really talk to him, except in a very stern and judgmental way. She’s not very sensitive to what’s going on with him, but treats it as a discipline problem rather than an emotional one. He needs understanding more than he needs punishment.
