Death is big business, and for the city’s largest mortuary, business is booming. While those who grieve say goodbye to their loved ones, the mortuary workers tirelessly prepare bodies for burial or cremation. The bodies enter discreetly through the back, away from prying eyes, while only the elegantly furnished ceremony rooms are open to the public.

Anyone stepping into the mortuary would be forgiven for feeling a chill down their spine. The air is thick with an unsettling dread. But surely, that's just your imagination playing tricks on you. After all, the dead always stay dead... don't they?

Death makes anyone feel unsettled. But what if death is the cover, and something far more sinister lies beneath?

Welcome to the busy and well-regarded mortuary of the city. With three doors, staff can discreetly go in and out while clients use the larger front doors. A viewing room greets clients as they walk in, and a hallway leads to the large ceremony room. An observant person will notice the elevator in the hallway, but the elevator will say it’s for staff only.

Notes:

The business of death isnt for the faint of heart. Use this arena as a way to test your players against things beyond the grave. Necromancy, twisted science, murder, and mystery.
There are three doors into the mortuary: the main entrance, a side entrance, near the funeral director’s office, and the back entrance where the workers go in and out. A large wagon serves as the dead’s last transport and a driver is on call 24 hours a day. It isn’t unusual to see the wagon late at night, arriving at a grief stricken home.
An entrance through the stables is where the dead enter the property. From there an elevator brings the bodies down to the basement where they are prepared for burial or cremation.
A large ceremony hall caters to the grieving loved ones, thoughtfully laid out to be bright and spacious, rather than dark and gloomy. It is the funeral directors’ goal to make the final goodbyes as pleasant as possible.
A secret room, expertly concealed, is tucked behind the stair well, accessible only through the office. What lays hidden behind the newly made wall?
