As always, thank you for your continued support, so glad to have you here!
I wanted to do something a little ambitious with this one. First, this is the largest map I have ever made at 50x50. Initially I thought what’s an extra 20x10 over the typical 30x40?!? Well, I didn’t consider that the difference is not linear, its actually more than double the area…. Long story short, this one took me a VERY long time to complete. Wanted to make sure all of the detail was still there regardless of the size. Take a look at the transitions between sand/dirt and grass. I have been working on some new techniques to increase the organic nature of the transition. I think its working well, let me know what you think!
Second, I wanted to push my comfort zone a bit by playing with some large elevation changes on the map. Which mostly means I needed to take a lot of care with shadows and shading to force the perspective of elevation change. In the process I was actually able to learn a new technique from some other creators. The idea is to use the path tool to shade for this type of thing (check out the YouTube video when it comes out). So, a new tool in the toolbox!
And again, if there are variants that you find more useful or would like to see more of, please don't hesitate to reach out and let me know. It helps me direct the content to things that are useful to you.
You can find the Base Map here.
Cheers
