The xps foams that I've used are all the same on all surfaces. But this could change depending on manufacturer. If you can only find stuff that seems to have a hard surface you may be able to slice off a thin layer to remove that part.

I am trying to find a good one where I live (Austria) but hardly any XPS Foams have smooth surfaces, and those that do are kind of hardnened... Thanks for your time!
