Starting something new.

When I first started this process of creating a new show/season for Heroes of, I had wanted to do it with someone random in the community. I reached out and got a lot of interest from people who had the same passion for The Stormlight Archive as I did. That was great because it meant that maybe this was worth doing.

I had just reread all three books in Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive series and I was still hungry for more content. I searched for a reread podcast that would go through the series in detail and talk theories, favourite moments, and everything in between. Even though there were some pods that had covered the series, I didn't find one that covered it in the detail I was looking for, so I decided that maybe I should do one. That's when I reached out to the community and got a great response.

I was trying to decide who to partner up with, when one night I was talking to my fellow Heroes of mate , Jack. He has provided us with countless terrain builds that we posted on Instagram, he was our Dungeon Master for years when we lived in the same city and he even appeared on the first season of the show to talk about his Homebrew D&D campaign: The Pirates of Blackwater. Most importantly, he’s one of my best friends and someone I go to when I need to brainstorm or workshop ideas I have percolating in my head. I mentioned the new show idea; an indepth reread of The Stormlight Archive and he instantly asked if I needed a theme song for that. See, he had already written the themes for our short lived Youtube presence, for the first season of the show when we were doing interviews with other D&D players, and for our own actual play in the Invisible Sun game  that we put out in season 2. So when he offered to write the theme song for it, I of course said  “yes, please!”.

I was excited for a couple of reasons; the themes Jack writes are fantastic, and also it means collaborating with friends. These projects are so much more fun when not doing them alone.

Jack then suggested that maybe he could co host this new show with me and that he could read the series and bring a newbie's point of view. Originally, I had wanted two people who had already read the series to chat openly about it, without the worry of spoilers hanging over every episode. However, like i just said, collaborating with friends is amazing and really it's the reason I started Heroes Of in the first place. And I had heard of podcasts like Unspoiled and the Wheel Weaves that have one first time reader and one experienced reader, and their shows work really well, so why not give this a try.

Now here we are a couple of weeks away from launching this new show and I am so excited and nervous that I'm about to burst.

Oh and as for the theme Jack wrote for this new project. Its fucking Fantastic! He wrote it before he even read one page of the series and somehow captured the essence of it. God, I'm lucky I have friends.
