There is a mid credit scene that you gotta see as well as some of the following credits. that will explain some of your queries. I would recommend watching it prior to the next movie, and maybe record it so you can include it in the Youtube cut if you end up doing that. A fun little easter egg in this is that, this is technically a prelude to the OG movies from like the 70's-80's where in the first manned mission to mars had something go wrong, and when they came back to earth it was not the earth they left. In this movie they had new articales on TV's and newspapers in the background referencing this mission.
