Rookie Historian Goo Hae-Ryung Ep. 14

Rim and Hae-Ryung have some fun with the westerner, while also trying to come up with a plan to help escape the palace walls. We also get some info on Mohwa's past and why the westerner is really in Joseon. And for the big boom more than halfway through, the king makes a huge threat on innocent lives that forces Rim to take charge while one of the Historians does the same, with a surprising twist! This one was fun but in the end we were shocked. Can't wait to see what happens next week!

Rookie Historian Goo Hae-Ryung Ep. 14

Comments

I love seeing Rim step up and try to do the right thing, even when it's going to put him in danger! And Haeryung loves that about him too. But I agree that it's fascinating the lengths the King will go to in order to protect the family reputation when it comes to Rim despite clearly not caring about Rim himself.

Taticakes

Mohwa was crying because she found a remnant of Seoraewon. And not just anybody. It’s the daughter of her beloved teacher who gave her a chance to rise up from being a lowly maid to becoming a learned doctor. Her crying tells of a heartbreaking past that will be revealed soon. The king, with all his faults, does care about the dignity or reputation of the royal family. That’s why he agreed to Haeryung’s request during their stand off, because Haeryung appealed to his need to be known as a good king. That’s why he continues to cater to the queen dowager. That’s why he continues to keep Rim’s birth a secret, even from the 2nd state councilor. That’s why this sudden marriage is happening. The way he disparages Rim’s birth as if it’s a big dirty family secret. “Dethroned King” was mentioned several times. He really thinks of the previous king as somebody who was filthy, who did something that ruined the family’s reputation. By now, you should be able to connect the dots as it’s all been laid out in previous episodes. Queen dowager said Rim is not his son, that’s why he could easily send him to the small pox ridden area. The king a couple of times now has referred to Rim’s parentage negatively - “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”, “filthy roots”. Put 2 and 2 together, and you should be able to guess it. 😜
