Removal of boots

Recently we removed one of the perks for being a Patreon, the free boots. Removing the boots was a tough decision for us but we think, ultimately, it strikes a better balance between providing benefits to supporters and maintaining the long term health of the games.

I know some of you are disappointed by this change but I just want to take this opportunity to explain the motivation for why we did it.

When we first started working on 12v12 and Overthrow, we needed to give supporters some kind of tangible benefit for supporting, and we thought giving free boots was a good option, players would like it and it wasn't going to harm the balance of the game too much, but we told ourselves that this would be the limit to the gameplay changing perks. However, recently we have launched a much better reward system for supporters, a system we probably would have launched the custom games with if we had it. I'm talking about the perk bonuses.

Now, either one of these things by itself, free boots or the perks, would not have been too deleterious to the balance of the game (In our opinion), but both of them together? Recently we have become convinced that having both boots and perks is just a little bit more than we are comfortable with. And while keeping our supporters happy is one of our top priorities we also want to keep the other players satisfied so they continue to play the custom games, after all, it doesn't benefit anyone if too many players leave the game and matches become hard to find.

We are sorry to any of our supporters that we have upset with the latest change, and if you would like a refund your latest payment, we will oblige any such requests. But we hope that you stick around and support our efforts to develop these custom games into the future.

We are interested to hear your opinions and maybe what other benefits would you like us to implement (ones that don't affect the balance preferably)?
