I feel like the Anonymous comment on 11/08/19 is really well thought out, and I should say something, but not give away where I'm going with my story.
1.
Yes, the Goddess of Beshenna wanted to let Zhair'lo die and become a kind of martyr, because of what she saw in his head. She wasn't planning far ahead, obviously, as this could cause big problems if another Temple falls, but there probably are older men in other places that could do the job. The system just got sloppy because no Temple had fallen in so long. Beshenna had read Zhai's mind during the mesh and decided the Temples would be better off if people like that weren't around.
Now whether the collective Goddesses figure out how important Talla was to Zhair'lo's survival, and whether they calculate his survival is important ... that's another matter.

The Goddesses do not rely on Divine Intervention and Deus Ex Machina to solve their problems. The gods gave the "gifts", as sort-of outlined in Shanata's history lessons, and the women are expected to cope with their problems without further assistance. I'm not going to get all deep and profound, pretending I'm writing one of those novels you dissect in English class, but one of the themes I meant to set here, as far as general tone goes, is that the women have been put in charge. They decided to use sex to control men (probably modified Copulins, sure!) and the gods gave them sexual repressing drugs to keep the teenagers out of trouble and a birth control spice to let them make that decision. But they meant for humanity to be independent after that.
Okay, I think that's what I wanted to say for now, and I'm thankful to all of you for supporting me, and whoever SSS is for writing that comment. Inspiration!
Cheers,
Xavier Torch.
