A small note about Two Hundred Dollars
Added 2019-09-25 01:40:42 +0000 UTCI set out, when writing this story, with two major goals (besides, you know, making an erotic, funny story about spanking).
1. Use the term vulva correctly in erotic fiction (19 times!)
2. Focus on consent
This whole thing takes place in a tiny world where three people understand consent, where they trust each other, and consequently feel more free to explore their kinks. Anyone who is seriously into the BDSM world will tell you that consent comes before everything.
So I thought I'd make a comment in response to several messages/comments/emails regarding the character of "Mel" (the unicorn at the Halloween party who almost got assaulted by the guy trying to spike her drink)
I put that scene in for two reasons
1. Kent needed a personality. It wasn't enough that he was Bailey's conceit for her exploration. It wasn't enough that he was the safe guy she could trust. I wanted to take that "fucking ninja" theme from Thanksgiving and go with it. Sure, he admired Bailey's determination and spark, but what does she see in him? Now we know. She sees integrity and patience.
2. Mel doesn't owe Kent anything. Mel felt obligated to relay a 'thank you' through Laura, and everyone thought that was enough. Bailey did. Laura did. Kent did. Mel doesn't owe anything to anyone. She's a person and she deserved not to be hurt.
So when I receive comments along the lines of "Doesn't Mel owe him?" No, she explicitly doesn't. It would break the whole point of the game if she came in with the sense that she had that kind of "debt". Sure, if somehow she got in some other way, by learning about their arrangement, that might be okay. But I think the web of feelings between the three main characters is already complex enough to manage.
TLDR: consent good, humans deserve humanity without "owing" anyone for it
Cheers,
Xavier.
