Trial of the Moon
Samson had discovered the GS ball, but wasn’t able to figure out what it was or what was inside. He contacted his cousin Samuel Oak to see if he’d take a crack at it. Samuel sends Ash to Alola to retrieve the ball where he learns of the Alola Trials. Seeing it as good experience for Ash, Samuel let’s him compete gaining new skills and new friends along the way.
Chapter 1
Ash Ketchum had lost at the Kanto League, it was a bitter lose, leaving Ash both confused and frustrated. Samuel believed it was good for him to lose here to give him some perspective.
He had rocked up to the league with Pikachu, Pidgeotto, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, a disobedient Charizard, a Muk, and a Kingler, with his 30 Tauros at Oak’s lab and his Primeape off in training.
There was so much more for him to learn and pokemon to understand. He also needed to work on his training ability.
The opportunity came when his cousin Samson contacted him about a mysterious ball he had found. He couldn’t identify what was inside it, and it wasn’t able to be transported. With such a precious discovery he didn’t know what to do.
Samuel asked Ash to retrieve the ball. He accepted and along with Brock and Misty he was off to the Alola Region. Oak updated Ash’s Pokedex, giving him information on three newly discovered types, Dark, Steel, and Fairy!
Things were changing in the Pokemon world, for instance the carry limit had been increased to 8, Double Battles were being recognized by all regions. Samuel believed Alola would be good for Ash, in more ways than one.
Oak got them tickets to Alola, and off they went.

They weren’t the only ones heading to Alola. Giovanni was quite tired of Jessie, James, and Meowth’s failures, so he was sending them to Alola. “You are to make contact with an operative. If you want to return you’ll pay back your debts, and gain skills to be worthy of Team Rocket.”
“Yes sir!” This was it their big chance.
The truth of it was Giovanni needed to rebuild things after Mewtwo wrecked their base. He had operatives in most regions, but one had quite a bit of data. Alola was a bit secluded getting information in and out was difficult.
What Giovanni knew was there was a power in Alola, a power he wished to make his own. The trio had failed him many times, but if they could be useful in establishing connection in Alola he’d make use of them, plus it got them out of his hair while he focused on rebuilding.

Ash and co arrived safely, and Alola was positively beautiful. “So where are we going?” Misty asked.
Ketchum pulled out a map. “Professor. Oak said his cousin runs a Pokemon School, we should be able to find it in town.”
“Look at that beach!” Brock was already distracted seeing a bunch of people having fun at the beach, especially the girls.
“Wow the ocean is so pretty.” Misty exclaimed. There were even people riding on water pokemon and racing. “I gotta try that.”
Ash decided to go let Professor Oak know they arrived safely while Misty and Brock checked out the beach. Contact to reach the main land cost quite a bit so they had to make it short. “Ash, don’t worry so much about the GS Ball, use this trip to grow as a trainer. I’m sure you’ll discover a lot if you open your mind to it!” Plus this trip was pretty costly, it’d take some time before they could afford to return anyway. Samson had paid for half but even still.
He also informed Ash that he registered three of his Tauros as Ride Pokemon. “You can collect your Ride Pager at the front desk.”
“Thanks Professor.” Ash ran out of money and the call swiftly cut out. “Oh man.”
Ride Pagers were a handy tool, you can use them to register certain kinds of Pokemon to aid in travel from one island to the next. They couldn’t be used in battles. Ash had 30 Tauros, and while they got plenty of exercise, not all were interested in battle so Oak took the initiative and got them registered feeling they’d make excellent aids to Ash in Alola.
Transferring Pokemon to and from Alola wasn’t easy either, Ash would have to establish a home base here in Alola if he wanted to catch any extra Pokemon.
Alola was like a get away place, secluded where people can relax and forget their troubles for a time. The people of Alola were pretty unique having a closer bond between people and pokemon. Visitors were often ignorant of the power that lurked in this region. They just enjoyed the fun in the sun.
Ash got his Ride Pager and went to catch up with Brock and Misty. “Laaaa!” A monster cry drew Ash’s attention.
“Come on you stupid Lapras!” There were three punks attacking a Lapras, one had light blue hair, the other pink, and the other boy was a bit on the hefty side.
“Yeah, be our ride Pokemon and take us where we want to go!” The girl snapped.
That’s not how the ride pagers worked. These three were just bullying the poor mon. “Leave ‘em alone!” Ash rushed over. “Who are you guys?”
“Who are we? Who are you punk?” The taller boy crossed his arms.
“You don’t wanna mess with us, we are Team Skull!” The three struck a pose.
“If you don’t wanna get your ass kicked.”
“You are hurting Lapras, if you wanted to catch it why don’t you?”
The girl laughed. “We don’t want this weakling, we just want to use it as a ride Pokemon.” They didn’t care about Lapras at all.
“Wait, he’s a trainer.” The blue haired one saw Ash’s monster balls on his belt. “If you want to fight us, you’ll have to put your Pokemon on the line.”
“What?!” Ash gasped.
“Pika!”
“No way!”
The trio laughed. “Then don’t get in our way, if you don’t have the balls to face us head on.”
Lapras whimpered, looking up at Ash. Their eyes met and Ash balled his hand into a fist. His aura flared, the pulse was felt across the island.
A Litten had been observing for some time, waiting for a chance to help if he could. Ash had surprised him when he stepped in.
Another Pokemon took notice, keeping it’s distance but was observing.
“Leave Lapras alone!”
“So a fight it is then!”
Zipp unleashed three Yungoos. “Get him boys!”
Pikachu rushed out and clashed with one of them, quickly getting surrounded. “Three on one isn’t fair!”
“Wow you must not be from around here, this is a swarm battle brat, we can use up to five Pokemon to crush you!” the girl known as Rapp said and called out two of her Zubat.
“If that’s how you want it.” Ash called out Squirtle and Bulbasaur, along with Kingler and Pidgeotto.
Squirtle and Bulbasaur backed Pikachu up, knocking the Yungoos away. Pidgeotto clashed with the Zubats.
He flew into the air, the bat monsters giving chase. “Pidgeotto use Quick Attack!” The bird shot off with great speed, slamming into one Zubat before swiftly hitting the other.
“Bulbasaur Vine Whip, Squirtle Water Gun, Pikachu use Thunder Shock!” The attacks went off hitting the Yungoos hard.
Rapp growled. “Zubats use Wing Attack!”
“Yungoos use Tackle!” Zipp called.
“Kingler use Bubble!” The water type hit the flying pokemon from behind dropping their speed. “Pidgeotto use Gust!” The wind hit blowing the two bats down and causing them to slam in the ground.
Pikachu and Squirtle dodged the Tackles, while Bulbasaur blocked it with Vine Whip. Ash’s focus was purely on the battle and he was handling his pokemon well as a group. His past experience of dealing with Team Rocket’s machines coming into play.
Ash’s focus was on the battle.
The boy Tupp was waiting for this, without warning he unleashed his Salandit all three of them, they jumped on Ash and took him to the ground. “Hey, you...are...cheating…”
“Pika!” The Pokemon gasped, distracted by their trainer’s distress.
“Toxic!” Zubats unleashed poison, causing Pidgeotto and Kingler to become badly poisoned. She called out her third Zubat. “Venoshock!” The two mons got blasted by the devasting move.
“Bite!” The Yungoos attacked Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Pikachu all at once.
“Looks like we win, we’ll be taking your Pokemon. Oh man the boss is gonna be so pleased.” Ash struggled only for the mons to dig their claws into him, one of them even wrapped their tail around his neck. “Careful they are poison types.”
“You cheated, you said…” Tupp stepped on Ash.
“Swarm battles are five v five, but you challenged all three of us, so we each can use five pokemon.” He shrugged. “Not our fault you’re too stupid to do the math.”
It wasn’t over, Ash had one other Pokemon. ‘But would Charizard even help in this situation?’ That doubt broke his heart.
“Li!” Litten jumped in and scratched at Tupp’s face.
“Ow hey what the hell!?” Litten jumped off his face, making him fall over.
“Ten!” He spat Ember at the lizard mons, forcing them off Ash.
“Thanks...little guy.” Ash got up. “Squirtle use Hydro Pump!”
The turtle monster sank into his shell, unleashing powerful streams of water, it blasted the Yungoos away.
“Pikachu use Thunder!”
“Pi...ka...chu!” Pikachu unleashed a mighty Thunder blasting away the Zubat and knocking them out.
“Bulbsaur Leech Seed.”
“Saur!” He fired the seeds out, one after another, making the numerous pokemon get grabbed and bound in ivy. Their energy was sapped away.
Team Skull returned their Pokemon. “We’ll still mess you up!” They grabbed the weapons they were using on Lapras.
Ash stood in front of his Pokemon, planning to protect them. “Ku!” Kingler got up and charged in, sching sching sching! He snipped up their weapons and with a mighty Crabhammer sent the three flying. “Ki!”
“We’ll remember this!” They cried as they got knocked away.
Pidgeotto and Kingler collapsed from the poison, so Ash returned them to their balls. Ketchum looked for Litten but the mysterious Pokemon had already left when he wasn’t looking. “Aw man, I wanted to thank it.”
“La…” The Lapras whimpered and Ash rushed over to it.
“Are you okay Lapras?”
Lapras licked his cheek. “Hehehe, that tickles, you’re welcome.” The Pokemon needed treatment. “Is it okay if I catch you and take you to the Pokemon center?”
Lapras nuzzled him, and in a flash he was caught. “Thanks Lapras!” Ash raced to the Pokemon Center and handed over his Pokemon for treatment.
He held Charizard’s ball in his hand. ‘If I called you out, would you have helped? We used to be so close, now it feels like I don’t even know you anymore.’ He sighed.
What awaited him in the Alola Region.
To be continued Kukui and the Pokemon School
