Pet Detective
Yusuke has become the Spirit Detective, and just soon enough as some demons are lost in the city and have to be found. Yusuke finds them, but doesn’t wanna take them back to demon world. He takes ownership of the two, making them his pets. Gon and Killua love their master very much.

Chapter 1 The First Case!

Yusuke Urameshi had died saving a young boy’s life from a car, the thing is he wasn’t supposed to. No one saw it coming! Because of his noble sacrifice, he was given a second chance at life.

He faced the trial and returned to life once more. It was great being alive again and what’s more Yusuke has been made Spirit Detective. He’s been giving access to his spirit energy, which he used to get some much needed payback on a scummy teacher.

It wasn’t long before Koenma had a case for him. “I need you to locate two lost yokai.”

“Demons are lost in the city?” It was hard to believe. “How dangerous are these guys?”

“Not sure, they appear to be low level, we don’t know how they came to be here, but we need to find them and return them to the other side.” Koenma explained.

“If they are low level how bad could they be?” Yusuke put his arms behind his head.

“Yusuke!” Koenma screeched.

Urameshi jumped. “Aww man jeez!” He rubbed his ear.

“Little demons can grow into big demons, and even low level demons can cause all manner of chaos in the human world!!!”

“Fine, fine, I get it!” He stretched. “How am I supposed to find these demons?”

“I’ve already sent Botan with Detective Tools for this case, she’ll be there soon.”

“Do you have anything for me to go on, names, faces, appearance?” Yusuke was looking for something to work with here.

“All we know is that one is a dog demon and the other is a cat demon.” Koenma signed off.

“A dog and a cat huh?” He remembered as a kid he always wanted a pet, a dog or a cat would have been fine, but his mom always said he was too young to care for a pet. Plus their old place didn’t allow pets.

Yusuke heard a crash from outside. ‘Is someone rooting around in the bins?’ He went out to see and found a boy dressed in rags rooting around in their trash. “Hey!”

Said boy had long spiky black hair with green tips, his eyes were a golden brown. He was covered in dirt and barefoot. The boy panicked and tried to run, only for Yusuke to grab him by the back of his rags. “What are you doing?”

“Let me go!” He squirmed, only for his stomach to growl. “Hungry…” He didn’t have the strength to fight or run at this point.

Yusuke sighed. “You don’t need to go rooting around in the trash for food. Come inside, let’s clean you up and get you something to eat.” He had a soft spot for things like this, there were days his mom was so blacked out, she left him with no food.

The two went inside and Yusuke got a wash cloth and began washing the boy. ‘This human...he’s not like the others...he has a very nice scent.’ Urameshi washed his hair and gave him a towel to dry off.

Yusuke hit the kitchen and cooked up some burgers. The boy gulped and began to drool as the tasty smell filled the air. He got tossed a bag of chips to hold him over until the burgers were done. “So what’s your name?”

“Gon!” He chirped happily.

“Well Gon, order up!” He seasoned and dressed the burgers and plopped a plate full of them in front of him.

Gon’s eyes sparkled. Munch! He took a big bite! “Mmmm~!” He dug in, maybe a little too fast. “Grk!”

“Whoa easy, don’t choke!” Yusuke got him some water, which he drank.

“It’s just so good!” Urameshi rubbed the back of his head, not used to praise.

“Yeah well, your welcome.” Gon went back to eating, losing focus and just enjoying the food. “Huh?!”

Yusuke blinked as Gon sprouted a tail, which began wagging happily, while his ears shifted to long and pointy ones. ‘Am I seeing things?’  He rubbed his eyes, but nope boy had dog-like ears now and his tail was there and still wagging. “Ears...and a tail…”

Gon froze in panic. “Oh crap!”

Yusuke pointed at him. “You wouldn’t have to be a dog demon would ya.”

“You can see them?” He thought it’d be fine, most humans didn’t believe in the supernatural so couldn’t see his traits even if he didn’t mask them. Yusuke nodded. “Who are you? You aren’t a normal human are you?” He jumped up, causing his chair to fall over.

“No I am not, now sit down, the burgers are gonna get cold.” Yusuke made a burger for himself and took a seat.

Gon fixed the chair and sat down. “You aren’t gonna hurt me?”

“Not if you don’t give me a reason to, now eat.” Not needing to be told a third time Gon dug back in to his burgers. He stuffed his face and rubbed his full belly.

“Ah~!” Urameshi was surprised, he wouldn’t call them gourmet or anything. He picked up some stuff from a burger joint, that shot him some burgers his way if he did dishes and took out some trash.

“So what’s your story?”

“I was playing with my friend Killua, when some demons jumped us, before we knew it we were brought to some kind of kind of building full of other demons.”

‘Must have been a warehouse.’ Yusuke thought.

“Some strange and scary men moved the cages out one by one and I heard people shouting and calling out numbers.”

‘An auction?...That’s sick…’

“When we were brought out, things got really noisy.” They didn’t know what was happening, but apparently they had been sold. Someone had bought them but underestimated them. “We ran, but we got separated, I don’t know where Killua is, and I don’t know what to do?”

‘Does he wanna get home?’ Yusuke wondered. ‘He seems more concerned about finding his friend than getting back home.’

Gon began to sniffle. Yusuke reached out and ruffled his hair. Gon blushed. ‘He’s a lot different than those other humans!’ His tail wagged.

“Yusuke!” Botan called and knocked on the door.

Urameshi groaned. “Must she be so noisy!” He got up and let her in.

“I’m here with your tools, with these you can start your case.”

“Way ahead of you.” Botan looked behind him and saw the dog demon.

“Hi!” Gon waved at her.

“Hi?” Apparently Botan took so long getting a human body prepared. He filled her in on what he’s told her. “It sounds like traffickers, sadly there are humans and demons who buy and sell yokai.”

“How would humans get demons if they can’t access the demon world?” Yusuke asked, though he wouldn’t like the answer.

“Just as there are humans who sell their souls to a devil, there are demons who sell their souls to a human if it benefits them.”

“If his friend escaped all the more reason to find him quickly and get them back home.” Botan said. She presented him with his tools the Demon Compass and the Mystic Whistle.

“You’re gonna find Killua!?” Gon said happily.

“Well I’m sure as hell gonna try. Do you have anything of his, something I can use to track him?” Gon shook his head.

“If he’s in the city limits you could try the Mystic Whistle.” She suggested. After a brief run down of what it does, Yusuke thought it might work.

“Cover your ears Gon!” He did, and Yusuke blew the whistle.

The dog demon whimpered as even with his ears covered the whistle’s sound was powerful. “How are we gonna know it worked?” Yusuke went over to Gon and scooped him up.

He had gotten dizzy from the noise, so Urameshi was comforting him, rubbing his back and rocking him. It was soothing. Botan was gonna comment on how cute they looked, but a death glare from Urameshi had her button her lip.

“I’m not sure, the whistle should alert any demon that hears it and draw them here.”

“What?!” All Botan had said was the sound level was determined by the spirit energy of the person who blows it, and the stronger the demon the more annoying the sound is, and that it travels at least 60 miles. The last thing Yusuke wanted was demons showing up at his house.

Smash!

A boy with white hair, pale skin, and blue eyes burst in from the window. He saw Gon in the arms of a stranger. “Get your hands off him!” This was Killua. He flew at Yusuke, causing him to dodge.

‘He’s fast!’ Was the shared thought.

“Hold on you’re Killua right?” The cat demon narrowed his eyes.

“How do you know my name?”

“Gon told me.” Yusuke got a good look at him, Gon’s rags had been brown, while Killua’s rags were gray. They’d both be around the same age roughly given their height and builds.

“That idiot…” Killua muttered. He had come to kill whatever was making that awful noise, but when he saw Gon, a switch was flipped. “Who the hell are you?”

“I’m Yusuke Urameshi, Spirit Detective.”

Gon had recovered but he was enjoying Yusuke’s scent. “Killua!” Gon pounced on him.

Killua bopped him. “You idiot, I was worried about you!”

“I was worried about you too!” His eyes began to water.

“Hey don’t cry!”

“Okay!” The water works dried up.

‘Is he simple or tricky…’ Yusuke wondered.

“Killua, Killua, Yusuke made me something really yummy called burgers you gotta try it.”

“I’m not hungry!” He huffed. Gurgle~

Gon grinned and Killua blushed. “Your stomach is more honest than you are.”

“Shut up, after what we’ve been through I don’t trust you yet!” He gave Yusuke a “I got my eyes on you” gesture.

“I’ll make you some food and Botan can report to Koenma that I solved my first case.”

Botan pouted clearly wanting to stay for food. “I’ll save you a plate but hurry up!” She got on her ore and flew off.

“She’s supposed to be my assistant, I’d have better luck with you two.” He said offhandedly.

Gon held Killua’s hand, happy to be reunited. Killua was to, but was too cool to admit it. It was fine he didn’t have to say it the dog demon could tell by his scent.

Speaking of aromas as Yusuke cooked up the last of the meat, the room once again was filled with the tasty scent of food. Killua’s stomach growled. “Ugh to think I was gonna eat out of a garbage can.”

“Me too!” Gon giggled.

“Well you two can enjoy yourselves tonight, we’ll get you back home soon enough.”

Killua shrugged and leaned back in his chair. “Whatever…”

“Do you guys not want to go home?” Killua shrugged.

“Home is where you to choose to be, for me Killua is home, I’m fine sleeping wherever so long as we are together.” Killua blushed.

“Yeah, home is where your head rests, that kind of thing, I get it.” Yusuke fixed and dressed the burgers and sat them before the boys. “Dig in!”

Killua eyed the food cautiously. ‘It could be poison…’ Munch! Gon was already digging in.

Yusuke had gone to grab a broom to clean up the glass.

The neko gulped and took a bite. “Mmmm~!” His pupils dilated. Killua dug in.

Gon chuckled. They ate up the burgers. “So good~!” Killua nodded.

Yusuke finished cleaning up and Gon nudged the neko. “Sorry about the window…” He bowed his head politely.

“Don’t worry about it, if anything it’s pretty bad ass you jumping in to protect your friend like that.” Yusuke ruffled his hair.

Killua shivered. “Why don’t you two grab a bath, while I deal with my boss when he calls.” The two tossed off their rags and ran off to the bathroom.

Gon seemed more interested in splishing and splashing, Killua was focused on cleaning himself. “Mr. Yusuke is really nice right?”

“He’s...okay…” Gon chuckled.

“I like him, he’s strong, he’s nice, and he smells really good!”

Killua shook his head. “You are just saying that because he gave you food.”

“It was good food, but I’m still right.” Gon rubbed his belly.

The neko jumped in the bath and the two began to splash each other.

Koenma contacted Yusuke. “So Botan tells me you’ve already accomplished your mission.”

“Yep, hopefully they’ll all be this easy.” Koenma rolled his eyes.

“Well you did well for a search case, we’ll make arrangements to send them back to the demon world.”

“Hold up, are they gonna be okay?”

Koenma raised a brow. “What do you mean?”

“They got jumped by some demons and nearly sold off in the human world. What’s gonna prevent that from happening again.”

“Well there’s not a whole lot we can do, demons of their level are often bullied by bigger and stronger demons.” Spirit World didn’t have the most influence in the Demon World.

Yusuke wasn’t having it. “So what we just send them back, and hope what happened to them doesn’t happen again?”

Koenma lowered his head. “I feel for them, but what would you like us to do, we can’t let them just wonder the human world.”

Urameshi looked to the bathroom door, eyes full of contemplation. “What if they stayed with me?”

“What?!”

Yusuke pointed at the astral projection. “You heard me, what if they stay with me, would that work?”

“These are demons Yusuke.” The boy crossed his arms.

“So?”

“You care about these two, you barely even know them.”

“Doesn’t matter.” He had died to save a kid he knew for less than 10 minutes. ‘Guess I don’t learn my lesson.’

Koenma folded his arms. “I mean, I can get the paperwork started, but you know this means they’ll be your responsibility right, if they get into trouble it’ll fall on you.”

“Just get the paperwork started pacifier breath. I’ll ask them what they want and if they wanna go home we send them home, and if they wanna stay with me, we make it happen.”

Koenma signed off.

“Yusuke!” Gon bounded out naked, he tackled Yusuke to the ground. “Hehehe~!”

“What’s gotten into you?” Gon nuzzled his chest.

“We heard everything.” He pointed to his ears. “These aren’t just for decoration you know.”

“You are gonna keep us?!” Gon asked happily, his tail wagging.

“Is that baby really your boss?” Killua asked.

Yusuke rolled his eyes. “If that’s what you want. Gon seems eager but what about you.”

Gon looked at Killua. “Come on Killua, let’s stay with Mr. Yusuke! Please!” He gave the feline big puppy dog eyes.

“Put those away!” Killua rolled his eyes. “One home is as good as another.” He said with a shrug.

These two reminded him of himself. Yusuke opened an arm, inviting Killua in for a hug. The feline came in and cuddled up next to Gon. ‘He’s right...he does smell good…’ Killua closed his eyes.

Yusuke scooped them up and brought them to his bed for some well deserved rest. It was rare for them to sleep together, normally they had to sleep in shifts.
