Chapter 1

Chapter 2 Kenichi in Trouble

Hayato returned to the dojo to find many of the masters sulking. “What’s all this?”

“Oh Elder!”

“We uhh…”

“You all have such long faces, did something happen while I was away?” He had left to train his granddaughter. They had returned from a long trip away. Miu wanted to go to school like a normal teenager, but they had arrived a couple months late.

“Well you see…” Apachai twiddled his fingers.

Kensei explained. “I see, so we had a new student.”

“Three months was all he could afford.”

“My word just three months and the lot of you are so attached. I’d like to meet this young man.” Hayato stroked his beard.

“That probably won’t happen, Kenichi doesn’t have a reason to return to Ryouzanpaku, let alone the money.”

“Does he?” The man smirked. “One does not find themselves here for nothing. I think the boy will be back.”

“Really you think so?” Sakaki and Akisame were excited.

Apachai rushed over. “How you know?”

“Call it a hunch, those that walk the path of the martial artist have a habit of getting caught up in things.” He believed the boy had a sense of justice, and sadly even doing the right thing like protecting the weak had consequences.

Miu finished unpacking ad planned to head off to school. “Miu, I believe the latest student of Ryouzanpaku is also going to the same school as you. Do your old grandpa a favor and keep an eye on him?”

“Sure thing, what’s his name? Do you think we can be friends?” She got really excited.

“Kenichi is sweet boy, I’m sure you and he will be fast friends!” Apachai said.

Shirahama was so grateful for Master Apachai, people bullied him so often. He tried to learn martial arts before to be strong, but it just got him used as a punching bag. It hurt...physically and mentally…

He always believed martial arts was to support the weak. While he had a sense of justice, he lacked the power and courage to stand up for himself. Even when he tried to summon up his courage for the sake of others, he was swiftly smacked down and thus made him retreat deeper into himself. Apachai helped Kenichi build confidence and helped him build up his strength. ‘Master I’ll never forget what you taught me, I promise I’ll only use what you gave me in self defense.’

Kenichi only learned two techniques Kao Loi and Ti Lan, these two techniques nearly cost Kenichi his life. Apachai couldn’t control himself, and nearly sent Kenichi to the after life twice...that he remembers…it’s best not to think about it...

Still it was just a matter of self defense, Kenichi wasn’t going looking for a fight, he just wants to protect himself. While Muay Thai worked well for killing, it also taught the user to channel the spirit of survival. The survival instinct is a powerful thing and can tap into strength even the user might not be aware of they had. One way to survive a fight one must dominate the fight, that is what Apachai drilled into him.

He was feeling confident and motivated. ‘Three months flew by so fast, but I can’t miss anymore school, and my allowance wouldn’t cover anymore training sessions anyway…’ He sighed.

It had been the first time in a long time he was actually looking forward to school. He was gonna pass on any of the martial arts clubs in school and find something peaceful. ‘The gardening club is always looking for members!’ He thought with a smile.

As Kenichi walked to school he didn’t notice someone watching him from the shadows. ‘Good he’s alive, I was worried about him.’ The mystery man thought. ‘Still, that fool Daimonji hurt Kenichi, he could have died. I wanted to wait and see if he was alright before I took action. Had that fool killed him, then I’d make sure he suffered for the rest of his miserable life.’

He was so busy plotting Daimonji’s future punishment, Shirahama got further and further away from him. ‘Damn it, oh well, have a good day at school Kenichi, I’ll see you soon.’

Kenichi was walking across the school yard when suddenly a girl fell from the sky and landed on him. “Oh my gosh I’m sorry!” She noticed the pin on his collar. Miu had taken a “shortcut” to school which meant she had to jump over the wall to get to the school yard and well there wasn’t really a way to look before she leapt in this case.

As soon as she was in the air, she ended up landing on Kenichi. “It’s okay, how did you?” He rubbed his head.

She helped him up. “My name is Miu, Miu Furinji!”

“Oh, Kenichi, Kenichi Shirahama.” Miu gasped.

“So you are the one!”

“Me?” She took his hand and shook it wildly.

“Yes, you are Apachai’s disciple!”

“Oh you know master Apachai?” She nodded.

“My grandpa is the elder of Ryouzanpaku, we just came back from training.”

“No way!” Kenichi gasped.

“I’m not lying!” She pouted.

He chuckled. “Sorry I was just surprised.”

Unknown to Kenichi and Miu a lot of people were staring. Miu was quite the beauty, and her talking to “Weak Knees Kenichi” was a shocker. ‘No one would give that loser the time of day.’ So the longer the two talked the more trouble that began to brew.

Not only was Shirahama back but talking to the new hot girl? Oh yeah, he was in trouble!

Apachai was right though, Miu and Kenichi did become friends. “Are you gonna continue training at Ryouzanpaku?”

“I’d like to, but I can’t afford it. I could visit, but I don’t wanna get in the way.” The alternative would be inviting the masters to his house and that...had some weird possibilities that Kenichi’s active imagination went crazy with. He couldn’t see a sit down with his parents and the masters going well.

Speaking of not going well…

“Kenichi!” Daimonji called out, the big guy marched over cracking his knuckles. He was in his gi, no doubt from morning practice. “So the little worm crawled his way back.”

“Miu, you should get going.”

“But Kenichi…” He smiled at her.

“It’s your first day, you shouldn’t be late to class, I’ll be alright.” Miu went on ahead, but someone else hung around to observe.

‘This is gonna be good!’ His weird radar had picked up that Kenichi had changed. ‘Seems Kenichi’s got a whole lot more interesting.’ Niijima took pictures.

“I didn’t think you’d come back weakling, didn’t you learn your lesson last time?” He laughed.

“Daimonji, I’m willing to forget what happened last time. Just leave me alone and never bother me again.”

The “mountain of muscle” laughed. “Did I beat you so hard you rattled your brain?” It was hard to believe Kenichi was scared of this guy, compared to the masters of Ryouzanpaku Daimonji looked puny. “I’m strong and you’re weak, I’m big and you’re small, you don’t give me orders you take orders!”

“Not anymore, I’m not gonna be bullied by jerks like you anymore.”

“Oh are you gonna fight me?” He laughed.

“I’m not looking for a fight.”

“Too bad, because one has found you. I was getting tired of the club’s punching bag doesn’t make noise like you.” Daimonji went at Kenichi who dodged. “Huh?”

“Last warning, go to class and leave me alone!”

“You think you can talk to me like that? I’m even stronger than the last time we fought, and you, you pathetic little worm are just as weak as ever!” He threw a punch which Kenichi deflected.

‘So slow…’ Shirahama jumped back and put his bag aside, before taking a fighting stance.

“You’re serious?” Daimonji laughed hard. “You little wimp you think you can fight me?” He pulled off his top and flexed, his pecs bouncing and jiggling. “Look at this muscle, you’ll break your hands on it!”

Daimonji continued to flex, but Kenichi wasn’t seeing him. He saw the dummy Apachai had him train with. ‘Light up the eyes, strike to win, aim for victory.’

“Go ahead, to show you how much of a sport I am I’ll let you have a free punch, go on hit me!” Kenichi struck and quickly jumped back. “See weak...you….ugh…”

Daimonji stumbled back a wave of pain washed over him. He had to catch himself or risk falling over. “What’d you do?” Kenichi’s hits were heavy, striking those points it didn’t matter how bulky Daimonji was. It shook him to the core.

“I hit you, let’s call it even and walk away.” The big jerk saw red.

“Even?” He charged at Kenichi. “I’ll kill you!”

Pow Pow Pow! Kenichi hit three times, Daimonji was completely unguarded. The shock knocked him out and he hit the ground. “Sorry, but I did warn you.” He was still alive, but he was gonna be in a lot of pain when he woke up.

Kenichi went to class, unaware the whole fight was witnessed. ‘Interesting...Kenichi’s gotten stronger, this is gonna be good!’

The karate club went looking for Daimonji and were shocked when they found him laid out, his muscled body bruised in four places. They splashed him and he came to. “Waaaahhhh!” He cried.

“What happened?” Tsukuba asked.

“It was...him...that punk...Kenichi!”

“What?”

“He did this to me!” Daimonji cried.

Tsukuba’s eyes narrowed on the bruises. “So you lost…” The wailing teen froze.

“Wait, he jumped me yeah...he sneak attack me!” He blurted out.

“What did he do?” Tsukuba wanted answers and he would get them. Daimonji knew Kenichi punched him, so it led to Tsukuba to believe Shirahama was a boxer or potentially knew some karate. Both styles he believed he could handle.

The thought of fighting a potentially strong opponent got him excited. “Inform Kisara, we got some potential here.”

“Yes sir…” He grabbed the guy.

“And let her know that Daimonji is trash!”

“Yes!” Ragnarok didn’t tolerate failure, and the punk had a strike against him and he didn’t know it.

Tsukuba followed Ragnarok procedure, if a target was in sight, he’d learn about him or her. Figure out their strengths and weaknesses, then test them. He couldn’t wait to stomp out weaklings.

In the meantime, Daimonji was handed over for punishment, and his arms and legs were broken. He’d be in the hospital for three months, it’s as if someone did exactly enough damage to keep him in there for that long. It was likely he’d never be able to do karate again. People knew Tsukuba was on the prowl, when he was hunting for Ragnarok, he would be seen rolling walnuts in his hand.

Kenichi joined the gardening club, Miu joined the gymnastics club. Niijima even found time to warn Kenichi about Ragnarok. Daimonji had just been recruited by them, and Kenichi defeated him. “But it was in self defense!”

“Doesn’t matter, it was a fight and you won!” Now Ragnarok had their eyes on him. Niijima applauded him. “I must say, even I was impressed.”

That didn’t help, Niijima was an evil alien/demon, who was always looking for a means to buy or manipulate people.

Kisara got approval for attacking Kenichi, but with some strings. “If you challenge Shirahama you have to bring him in, even if you crush him.”

“Why?”

“No idea, orders from above.”

Tsukuba didn’t care so long as he got to fight him.

He tracked him down to the gardening club and forced Kenichi into a battle. His steps were bouncy and his guard was up. ‘He’s strong.’ Kenichi thought.

The karate user had beaten many opponents both in thee ring and on the streets for Ragnarok. “Look, I don’t wanna fight you and I don’t want anything to do with Ragnarok!”

“Too bad, orders are orders and I’m bringing you to Kisara.” He attacked Shirahama only for the brunette to dodge.

‘Ti Lan!’ He launched a powerful low kick, which caught Tsukuba by surprise. His leg took a mighty blow.

Tsukuba was taken off guard. ‘That’s not allowed in a tournament.’

Kenichi took his stunned state to go in for the “kill”. ‘Kao Loi!’ Kenichi grabbed the back of his head and brought it down into his knee.

The karate user got knocked the hell out! ‘He’s still alive!’  Shirahama breathed a sigh of relief.

‘Another win for a Kenichi.’ Word was gonna get back to Kisara about Tsukuba’s loss and who was responsible. “Well done Kenichi, you took out Kisara’s gauntlet, no doubt Ragnarok will be after you.”

“Oh no!”

Miu showed up. “Maybe grandfather has some advice!”

So it was time to go back to Ryouzanpaku.

To be continued...Kenichi’s Back

The elder has a plan to help Kenichi, first thing’s first move in, and he can pay his way by doing chores around the dojo.
