Thanks to everyone for your patience in waiting for this one. This whole episode has now been 9 months in the making, from starting writing to finishing the video, and has been one of our longest and most sweeping episodes to date. It was also a real pleasure to set to video. In this episode, I've been able to bring together premium stock footage and archaeological images that bring the story to life, as well as some absolutely wonderful re-enactment footage provided by A+E Productions, who work for the history channel. I've also been able to include some lovely re-enactment footage from Channel 4, produced by the same team that worked on the visual effects for Gladiator - now upscaled into high definition for the first time.
As usual, Patrons get first access to the video, while the time consuming business of transcribing subtitles, clearing copyright checks and so on goes on. I hope this is a good way of saying thank you for supporting this show, and allowing me to make these productions the best they can be. If you notice anything that looks wrong or out of place, give me a shout and I'll correct it before it goes public.
Once again thank you for all your support and kind words, and I hope you enjoy the show.
Paul

I like your videos because of whatever extra I can learn outside the Bible about these ancient civilizations. But calling an Egyptian from 1300 B. C. 'the first monotheist' is an uneducated ignorant comment that runs contrary to the best historical sources.

This podcast is worth every penny. I am a world history teacher and I just subscribed. This is a great additional resource when Iβm planning my lessons. My favorite aspect is the details with how geography contributed to the growth of civilizations. The detail is unmatched. Thank you!

Fantastic, i did find the beginning section to be a bit too focused on kings which i find eh in history, but i understand thats mostly because there's not much else to say when the record is focused around the piramids themselves.
Anyway great work as always.

FWIW, I did find the music to be a bit more-than-necessary in the first, oh, ten minutes or so. A strong point of these FoC podcasts for me is their lack of hype, so I 'm not keen on music cues trying to make things seem more dramatic or exciting when the narration is sufficient unto itself. A very minor kvetch considering all the work that went into this.
Also, some subtitle snafus here and there, but I'm assuming that's what's being worked on before release.
I only mention either of these because of the implication that it's still in-process; released as-is would still be better than 90% of anything else out there.

Absolutely incredible! Paul, from the editing, to the script, to the atmosphere, your documentaries are always deeply moving for me. I can never get tired of seeing the story of human civilizations unfold, seeing their aspirations, hopes and achievements as well as their shortcomings, greed and circumstances that eventually lead to their fall. It's the ever-repeating story of humanity, and it always ends on a nostalgic and sad note. It's a unique feeling. And I've never seen documentaries that can capture that feeling as well as yours do. Thank you very much for all your time and hard work!

Hey Paul, I just discovered Our Prehistory podcast by Benjy Longworth and my god if he isn't almost as fantastic as you are but with precivilizations.
Man I'll tell you what, I would LLLOOOVVEEE too see a collab between you two, dealing with the grey area at the very early dawn of civilization. Like the Indus Valley Civilization.
I don't know if you've heard of him yet, but his podcast is literally the most perfect companion to yours I could even imagine!
